The Name Game

What is your favorite name to give the main character in video games without a set one. I usually use Fenix.

It depends a bit on the genre and setting, but usually it's either 'Jaz Tarn' or a variant thereof, 'Crowfield' or 'von Hoell'. Or all of these above (my female Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 character was Jazintah von Hoell, for example).

I usually go as Armageddona, if it meets the number of characters requirement, or Lady Armageddona. And sometimes when I am feeling lazy I just type Arma. For my male characeter I go with Armageddon (speaking of originality)
But these days I am even lazier. I played the whole Fallout with a male character named None, and for FO2 I just typed A. Or I go along with the provided name, if there is one (like Dakro for my Guardian in the Geneforge games).

Choosing a name is usually situationally specific for myself. I don't really have a preferred name I use over others.

Current BG2: Beowulf

Current MM6: Graham, Zoe, Winifred, Frederick

Lintra is one I use a lot *grin*

But also my cat's names:

Mike - The big fast fighter type
Natelie - The very fast rogue type, sometimes used for NWN Monk
Madeline - The female berserker or healer (don't ask - is a long cat person story)

Also, from my PnP days:

George - A take it as it comes Ranger ... sometimes a druid.
Hector - A paladin, the only natural 18/00 character I ever rolled up.
Lintra - Res ipsa loquitor
Illiar - A healer type

Or what ever else takes my fancy. I usually rip off historical names so I've had Richard (the lion hearted), Joan of Arc, Hadrian, Xerxes, Alexander, Scipio etc. I've even played a Ramses.

RTS & FPS - Major Pain, General Misfit, Foaming Squirrel
RPG, Male - Samhain, Lord Eck*
RPG, Female - Iron Maiden, Sabrina Satana
MMORPG Non-human - ThunderPaws, Silentpaws, Muddypaws, an attribute followed by -"Paws" basically.
MMORPG human - Samhain, Exorcist

This convention of course goes out the window if I either cannot get the name, or am feeling frisky and just pick a name out of the air such as my Tauren "Xtultec".

*eck is short for ecksercist, which was an alternate spelling of "Exorcist" that I used when I first began chatting online and I wasnt particularly hip to different methods of getting desired names via "xX" or other prefix/suffix. Friends just started calling me "Eck" or "Ecky" and it just stuck. Just some Sam trivia there

Male: Sem (pretty obvious)

Female: Vilya (originaly the name from one of the 4 gems that are the key to Ianna's temple in "Severance Blade of Darkness". Somehow that name just stole my heart)

My last Xerxes was quite interesting ... a satyr monk. I am sorry that game broke up ... it had some great characters in it.
