This is toughie, but I have to go with ease of use ... Zippers. However, buttons are safe, quieter and easier to repair, but on those occasions when you really need to visit the rest room - VERY BADLY - zippers rule.

Swords of course, especially two-handed. Spears are only ideal against cavalry, otherwise you'll be too vulnerable when you attack.
