Mercenary or Paladin?

Hello, I'm a 15-year RPG veteran who just started Gothic 2 a few days ago. I didn't play Gothic 1. I'm trying to decide whether to become a mercenary or paladin for my first game.

What are the advantages of each? I'm leaning heavily towards mercenary because I find the magic system cumbersome.

Where do I go to join the mercenaries? I've done some of the first city, and visited the rebel farm area.

Finally, who should I apprentice myself to? I'm thinking in terms of income.

Each player has a different opinion on who is best to apprentice for. I personally choose Bosper because I am killing the animals anyway, so I might as well get a better price for my skins/teeth/etc.
Some prefer Harad because you can gain money quickly(not quicker IMHO), but making the swords is so repetative and boring.
Other players prefer apprentice for the alchemist because you get a higher price when you sell plants and herbs to him. He would be my second choice.

Paladin or Merc: Paladin is MUCH easier.....the first real rune you get is holy arrow, and it is VERY powerful....too powerful IMHO...and the swords you can get also easily kick butt. I think paladin should be everyone's first game thru....then merc...then mage.
As a merc you can get very powerful also, but nothing the merc gets can compare to the paladin runes for easy destruction lol.

It´s a matter of taste. You can´t see everything in a single run through the game. Play the class you prefer. Just make sure you play the mage before the add-on.
