Everquest?

Ok....would it be a bad idea to get the Everquest gold package? or are they going to be bringing out Everquest 2 soon?

If you want to try Everquest the Gold box is the only way to go right now. Without the Plane of Knowledge books to get you around, meeting up with folks can be difficult (& VERY time consuming), and Kunark is the most enteraning area of the game for me. Everquest 2 is still a ways off, best bet it will be anther year till luanch. Take alook at http://www.everquest-2.com/ I am not realy looking forward to EQ2, but I sometimes stop by to see how it is progressing from an end user point of view. EQ can be fun- mostly when friends are on, or I stumble into RPers.
Good Luck

If you haven't already played Everquest, then it's definitely worth getting. The game is really great up to a certain level. After playing it for a long time you'll get tired of the same routine. The biggest complaint is the fact that as you gain levels it gets harder to solo. After level 45 or so, you'll have to rely on your friends if your going to get much enjoyment out of the game. The good news is you could play the game for a long time before ever running into any of those problems. I used to have two level 60 characters back when level 60 was as high as you could go. I only had fun from level 1 to level 45ish...

I'd recommend you play it until WoW is released. WoW will make EQ and EQII obsolete... (even though EQII isn't even released yet either)

There is a new EQ packaging coming out called Everquest: Evolution which includes all the current expansions. The only thing missing is the expansion due out later this year (Sept. I think). Over all the expansions add alot to the game, expect maybe Lagacy of Ykhesh (spellling?) which is bit small.
I strongly agree with SirDeity's view: by 45th level grouping is the only way to go, soloing becomes pointless.

How can you not look forward to any game. With each new game released something new is added to the game industries inventory of what should and shouldn't be put in a game. I don't look forward to playing all games, AO, and maybe all games released don't add anything, Mad Dog McGee, but EQII, comon, the heir to the biggest US launched MMOROG ever, and your not looking forward to what it will be like?!

I'm not either, and I totally understand LB on that. And I'll tell you why: Hype! Hype is the Bane of all MMORPG players. And it's amazing that for every new game that comes out it's often the same old story: disapointment. I refuse to expect any future MMORPG (just to make it clear that this isn't an issue specifically against EQ2 at all) simply because I refuse to expect anything out of games that will most likely come out truncated and drastically changed from what was originally promised. Why would you even expect EQ2 to be the best game to come out simply based on the fact that you enjoyed the first one? You could be in for a major disapointment. Maybe not, but there's a huge chance that you are!

When a game comes out, I try it. I do not want to waste time waiting and expecting games that will be pushed back. Those who fall prey to the hype are part of the reason why these games come out too early in the first place! If more people would concentrate on enjoying the games that they have now and not always expect the next one, than maybe we'd have a better genre...

That all being said I know that the publishers do some good work on pre-selling their products, and players aren't to be blamed completely... But if we'd just conciously tone down our expectations a little we could change things a little...

You could say I get caught up in the hype. I look for with great anticipation to every new MMORPG. I get excited over every promise. But I never get disappointed. I never buy a game, especially when it first comes out, untill it' has been out for a couple months, and I've seen a patch or so. How do I not get disappointed...I don't get my hopes of. I read all the promises and all the "First game to ever..."'s, but only expect a new adventure in a new setting. Thats why I'm looking forward to EQII, good ol' Norrath, great new adventure. I get caught up in the hype, cause I like shiny new toys. My disapointment comes in the form of when they ruined UO. Or when a game is cancled. UO2 But I'm not disapointed by bugs (easy fix) or a plain bad game, I'll just resort to a non MMO or an old classic MMO. At least until that one gem comes out.
