JoWood considers edpisodic content for Gothic & Spellfor

According to World of Gothic, JoWood CEO Alfrd Seidl is looking at some form of episodic content for brands like Spellforce ans Gothic - according to comments in an German interview. Here's part of WoG newsbit:
He doesn't believe in the continuing success of MMOs who charge players monthly fees. However, JoWooD would like to meet the needs of the community much faster and distribute further «episodes» to existing games via online channels.
He calls this «Episodic Content». For Spellforce, the first «episode» is slated for Q1/2007 and called «Dogs of War».

These «Episodic Content» should reflect feedback from the community, strenghten the bond between the brand and the player and minimize financial risks for the publisher.

Releasing small Gothic episodes as add-ons is a very cool idea, IMO.

I can just picture it:

"Next month we celebrate the 10th episodic release with a special treat for all you german speaking gamers ... and we are also getting close to releasing the first of the critically acclaimed episodes in english"

Come on, fatBastard. For you as a danish citizen it's not too hard learning german.

I don't see how you could do episodic content for an open-ended game like Gothic. It's not like a linear FPS where you give the story to the player in little controlled pieces.
