FYI: this problem was recently 'solved' on a similar system by ending/terminating all (all includes messengers, tools, and so on) other applications.
I've no more information yet (what application in particular caused the conflict in this case) but give it a try.

I have a P4 2.8Ghz, 1Gb, ATI Radeon 9700 pro and the game is running great at 1280*1024, VD 300%, OD 300%, with all options enabled/high.

But...

When i'm in some caves or homes the game seems to slow down to 1 or 2 fps. Also it stutters when you move (looks like lag in a MMORPG). So when i'm harbor area or when i'm standing on a tower with a large overview (bandit camp tower) the game runs great, but in some caves/rooms the game almost doesn't run at all...

It's not in every room/cave and when I exit them, the game runs great again...

Is there someone with a similar problem/solution?

Thanks in advance!

well I had a problem in GOTHIC I , like that

when I was in an open area , the game runs a bit slow

but when I entered the great scary mines ( )

or the orc cave , it runs great

dunno maybe the problem is that there are a lot of details in the open areas

I think you didn't get my message

It's logical that the game runs slower in open areas where there's more to see. With me it's vice versa: The game runs perfect in open areas and in the city, but sometimes it becomes almost impossible to play when i'm in rooms or in caves...

How much as i love this game, those crashes are getting MAD ANNOYING...it's getting kinda ridiculous now...it's been crashing 4 times in a row on me now when loading my newest savegame....it just throws me back to the goddamn desktop....i HATE that...then when i load up gothic II again i have to wait AGES for that damn virtual memory thing to load...but only to get that damn savegame load crash once again....is this ever gonna stop???

Ok this is just BS...yesterday i've uninstalled en deleted the directory. re-installed it...it worked for a while..but it seems MESSED UP once again...

There are usually more light sources within the cave, so if you have a poor graphics card ( I didn't take the time to look whether you posted your config), but still have a decent sytem, you can encounter such problems. But, this should also be true for the city itself, while there are bunch of light sources there... So, I dunno.
