This could be a good sign for all of us who are still waiting for an English version of this game. Why would a site like Gamespot post these pics so long after the game was released in German?

Because they were released by JoWooD? It doesn't matter to Gamespot or any other US-centered site if a game was released in Germany already or not. Hell, they usually also don't care about UK releases. They did a preview of Gothic II shortly before the game shipped in the US. At that time the UK version of the game had already been available for 2-3 months.

by the way besides gamespot there is a site called www.tothegame.com also that is pretty nice

it got some infos also about the addon and gothic 2 tho the release dates are still TBA
