I'm trying to lockpick now that I've gotten my level 1 lockpick skill from fingers.
1.I kneel in front of a chest
2. I select the lockpoick in the window of my inventory
3. I press ctrl+up and nothing happens. I can't seem to equip the lockpick either.
What am I doing wrong?

1.(ctrl or LMB) + up
2.locks have combinations of (left or right), for example lllrrlr. I donīt remember if you have to press ctrl + l/r or only l/r, but youīll find it out.
3.you hear different sounds for hit and miss. If you make a mistake you have to restart.
4.After a few mistake your lockpick breaks.

Some locks canīt be picked. If neither l nor r work, you need a key.

Hehe. The German manual sucks even more.
The interface is nonintuitive, but when you got used to it youīll see that itīs VERY fast. Way faster than a normal mouse interface.

I like it when the guy says "Shit. It is all over again..." After you lose a lock-pick or two, you start saying that too. Hehehehe.

You don't have to equip the lockpick.
The character uses it automatically.

There's a much better manual at http://www.XICAT.com

The manual at XICAT has a tutorial on how to use the controls.
