A BIG problem with sound... PLEASE HELP |
|
Hi there! I come from Slovakia ( a small country in mid Europe) and I've got a serious problem with W8. There are no sounds in the game, for example when I create a new party member and I choose his voice and I play it, I can't hear it. But that wouldn't be so serious. I start playing the game, move on to the crabs on the beach and start fighting with them. But then suddenly game crashes and an error occures:
ERROR: You are viewing a message intended for the developers of Wizardry 8. Please report the following information to technical support. We apologoze fo inconvenience.
Debug assertion in module C:\Projects\Wizardry8\Local Code\Combat Sound.cpp line 104 failed:
Expression [ FileExists(zSoundFileName) ] evaluates to false.
CombatSound: ERROR - Sound file Data\Sound\Combat\Attack_Staff_Wood.wav not found.
But the funniest thing at all is that when I looked into the directory Data\Sound, I haven't found there the directory Combat. THERE IS NO SUCH DIRECTORY!. I've got there only a file called Sound.slf and a directory Monsters. What's the problem with this? Thanks for answering.
This is my PC (if it helps somebody): Matsonic MS8137C, AMD Duron 1.3 GHz, 320MB SDRAM, WD 80 GB JB, Ati Sapphire Radeon 128 MB, sound card ALS4000, Windows XP CZ Service Pack 1, DirectX 9.0A, and i have installed new drivers for my graphic card & sound card. |

1) which CD do you have in the drive when you start?
2) what patch version do you have?
3) I'd definitely check the audio setup to make certain volumes are set properly and none of the mute buttons have gotten checked by accident.
After checking those three, I'd recommend a reinstall. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

Hi there. I solved it, but the solution is quite bizzare, but first:
1. I had the 3rd CD in my drive
2. I have the 1.2.4 version
3. the audio setup is ok
Also I reinstalled it twice.
Now my solution:
At first when I installed the game from my DVD-ROM Toshiba SD-M1612, it crashed. But then I tried to install it from my DVD burner Teac DV-W58G and the game was ok. The sounds are there and there is no crash. So the result is that i had to install it from my DVD burner, not from DVD-ROM, althought I don't know why. |

I remember Sir-Tech having some troubles with the SafeDisc protection not playing nice with certain drives. I don't remember much about the issue, unfortunately. Perhaps that is what caused your trouble.
You're in for a real treat. Wiz8 is a spectacular game! _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=
