cheat on your level up HP rolls and reload until you get the most HP you can get? I'm just starting on BG1 and I'm just wondering...

In tabletop I don't cheat on any sort of roll. In a CRPG D&D game I do often set the difficulty slider to give me max hit points because I find it doesn't change the game much. In a computer game death is a fact of playing... reloading is a way of life. You might as well milk the HP for what they're worth because you're still going to bite it a few times.

I've played BG2 on both settings... maxed and rolled. It really didn't change the rate at which I died. So no... I don't reroll and reroll and reroll and reroll my hit points when I level up. That's a waste of time. I set the game slider to give me max hit points and 100% spell scribing chances. It's just a computer game, after all, not 'serious' like tabletop gaming.

Same as EverythingXen - in CRPGs everything is so combat orientated that max hit-points are almost essential. In PnP there is far more actual roleplaying so combat (and therefore hit-points) aren't as important.

I don't. Eventhough it is more important in a CRPG I don't change anything either. I don't feel that having less HP made it that much more difficult.

Really? I found BG2:Throne of Bhaal almost impossable unless I had the hit points to soak up some of the big attacks. Of course in Planescape I didn't bother as it was easier to just die and respawn than waste valuable healing potions

That's not cheating, just bending rules a little , and yes if there is such freedom I'm doing it, but this is as far as I go.

I finished both BG1 and BG2 without adjusting stats. I just can't bring myself to do it. I feel that I would be cheating. Ocassionally on other games I will decide before hand how many random rolls to give myself. At least then I feel I have a limit.
