Virgin Interactive, seems to restart their production of PC games. A future CRPG is called "Nightstone"

Complete with ' Last Generation Graphics'. This game seems to have come out of nowhere. Anyone know anything about it?

I posted the newsbit 1 week ago nd immediately mailed Virgin Germany, but they don't have anything about it - since the screenshots are soooooo small on the official site, let's wait for future announcemnents...

Here are some rumours, how the game will be:

Nightstone is a classic adventure/role-playing game involving real-time action and classic strategy elements. Using these characterisitics, the player is immersed into a dark, forbidden world full of mayhem, chaos and destruction.
Upon choosing one of three diverse heroes, your quest takes you through many inhospitable lands until you reach the Black Goddess Temple, which is where you must destroy the Nightstone. However, your quest will not be easy and your journey will be perilous, full of endless dangers and unforgiving hostile forces.

Real time role-playing action

35 daunting levels, with lots of different scenes and areas to explore (caves, castles, mines, settlements, forests and taverns)

Three characters with individual attributes, armor, and spell abilities

Hundreds of objects and weapons

Over 25 enemies

One thing that particularly stands out in Nightsone is the A. I., which is based on stimulus. Hostile forces can see, hear, smell; and even warn each other, if they feel that they are in danger.

Single-player campaign

Up to eight players in deathmatch or co-op scenarios across the Internet or a LAN

Dynamic lighting effects and 3D graphics

Excellent, easily usable map editor that allows the player to create his own stunningly detailed environments.

Looks like it's thin on the number-crunching front, which doesn't have to be negative, by the way.

But "stimuli" - sounds innovative, does it mean a different trigger A.I. scripting system?

Yes, the numbers have we seen larger else where, but You are right, it's about quality!

I don't think Stimuli AI is innovative, but the games who tried to use it before, may not have been very convincing. I guess some newer 3D shooters have some adequate Stimulus AI's, but on CRPG's I haven't seen a convincing one!
I guess the trigger, is the creatures senses, combined with it's courageous/intelligense

Well, what I meant, rather than frowning upon the number of monsters, items, etc., that the game seemed, from the description, to be slanted towards action-based RPG rather than strategic, turn-based RPG.

I hope the 'stimuli' AI is something better than what the Baldur's gate, etc., games have, and I think things can definitely get better on that front. (Pathfinding in those games is simply sad)

One other interesting about this game is the price. Apparantly all future Virgin games will be selling for just 20 dollars.

They state that the production costs are the same as usual, but there will be no manuals. With the DVD cases, Lack of manuals and ( They hope ) bigger sales, they hope to increase interest. Manuals can be ordered afterwards. Sounds like a good idea.

There is also a few screenshots.

Interesting side-note, from what I remember Codename Outbreak, another Virgin title, got pretty good reviews.

20$, sounds like discount games, I don't hope it has similarity to the games quality!

DVD cases and no manuals? I hope they only release uninteresting titles. :sad:

I would *never* buy a game in a DVD case for the usual 80DM.
Only brilliant games have a chance to even make me start thinking about purchasing them, if they come in a DVD box. For example a very good RPG like Arcanum would be disqualified immidiately.

On the other hand, for budget titles itīs okay. Most collectors buy earlier.

I would buy a game in a DVD case. The help is on the DVD of course and easily printed. I would also be assuming I am going to pay less to get it like this. I might choose the DVD version over the boxed manual set, if the price were attractive enough. On a $49.99 game, I would pay ... $39.99 to get a DVD only version.
