I'm afraid I don't play many RPG's. Actually, I've only ever played the Wizardry series. Does anyone know if anyone is planning to come out with Wizardry 9? I've played Wizardry 8 and I love it! I'd like to think another is forthcoming.

Unfortunately, here is the news:

Sirtech Canada, developer of the Wizardry RPG series on the PC, has announced that layoffs and a lack of funding has halted development on their most recent titles: one of them being Wizardry 9.

The company explained that the main reason for the development halt was that they were not receiving royalties from European publishers for their strategy games Jagged Alliance II and Jagged Alliance II: Unfinished Business for their game development funding. In general, gathering funds was difficult. These arrangements make Sirtech Canada's situation for Wizardry 9's future seem bleak as Sirtech Canada must obtain the funding money in the next four to eight weeks."

Don't be sad, there's still a lot of other good CRPGs out there.

@Dhruin: Don't mind me. I just didn't love the first one. So, unless tons of reviewers think it's the next holy grail of RPG gaming, I'll probably wait for it to go down in price before I get it. I'm patient enough to wait for it to drop to a price that I consider reasonable for the gameplay I'll be receiving.

@Gandalf: It would take divine intervention at this point.

I thought Wizardry 8 was being marketed as the last one?

Wasn't Midgard cancelled? I mean, they haven't even updated the official homepage since last year!

It was put on hold last October, but they kept implying that they were going to start working on it again. Just a couple weeks ago they finally had the meeting to decide whether to go ahead with it or cancel the project, but they still have not announced their decision. Which suggests to me that it has been canceled.

I'm waiting for the update of the Dragonlance flight simulator. That was a swell game.

I don't know if you're kidding or not, but there was a game probably 10 years ago where you were a dragon rider, using a lance to kill a variety of critters while you flew around. There was a story to follow, and like four different "guilds" you could join by doing special quests that granted better dragons to ride. You could pick up different weapons and armor to help yourself out, too. Gads, that was a great game. I got a new computer way back then that wouldn't play the game anymore, and I was terribly disappointed. Heck, I think I had the thing on 5.25 floppies...

What was the name of that game anyway?
