want an internet DnD PnP group |
|
I havent had a good DnD session for years.
so I wanna join or start an internet-based PnP group!
I can either be a good player or even the DM. Yeah, i can DM, but id rather not; i like being a player a hell of a lot better. But still, i can DM if worse came to worst and nobody else would do it. If i DM, i will buy a ton of books to do it with.
So who wants to join?
This would be a campaign. We could play a few days a week, whenever you want, for as long as you want.
Everybody would have to be trusted to tell what real dice rolls are. No cheaters.
No jokers. I hate stupid players. Im a serious player. I dont like messing around.
Im not sure what programs we'd use. Maybe ICQ or somefin. |

no, this isnt a user group. its a group of DnD players that will contact each other via email and chat programs. we would play the games live through using mikes and stuff. just like a real PnP group, except its over the web. |

I don't have a mic, but I'd be interested. I always enjoyed watching my older brother play DnD with his friends, but they didn't want me to play.
I always thought playing a thief would be cool. _________________ -=Professional Secret Agent=-

I don't have a mic either and people would have to explain the rules to me. It's been a long time since I've played and when I did we usually just made up our own rules... _________________ If soot stains your tunic, dye it black. This is vengeance.

We can just 'invite' him into our conversation when we want to play and 'ask' him to dm for us... _________________ If soot stains your tunic, dye it black. This is vengeance.

I'd love to play. I think the way Xen had it set up was the best. We had a Yahoo group and everything was done through e-mail. Simple, easy and gives the DM time to run the battles. I could DM, but I lack the resources for it. I only own version 3.0 of the Players' Handbook and the epic book for Clerics and Paladins. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Welp, i could DM i guess then, Val. I will buy a few books next month and then one book a month after that, as needed. I mean, theyre only 30 bucks each. pretty cheap, i say. And i know a lot of internet resources for DnD. like Woodelfs site.
That would be even cooler to do it through email. How does it work though? I mean, how does the yahoo group function and what has that to do with email?
im gonna go look at the yahoo group thing, brb. |

Actually i just realized that my big brother next door has all the books we would need! Also i have some internet resources to use, like the Netbook of Monsters, Netbook of Spells, et cetera...
So i guess its settled then, i will be the DM, and the reason i am now eager to be DM is because this wont be in real time. I mean, i can come up with some wicked stuff but it takes time. I think we will start in the Forgotten Realms.
Also, Val, i need to know the procedures that you guys used before. Does the DM send everyone emails describing the situation? or does the DM post the situation on the Yahoo Group just like a board? and then all the players respond and i take that to work with, et cetera? Also how do battles occur? I mean, who does the actual dice rolling? the DM or the players? and would it take a long time to do just a battle?
EDIT -- btw, in case ur wondering, my brother cant play bcuz he drives truck all the time. poor guy.
EDIT 2 -- okey so far i am getting the following books:
Players Handbook 3.5e
Dungeon Masters Guide 3.5e
Monster Manual 3.5e
Monster Manual 2
Unearthed Arcana
Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting 3e
-- i will update this list of sources as they happen! also, i will go ahead and start a Yahoo Group for this. I have yahoo for my email client anyway.
-- when you guys need to know the 3.5 rules i WILL inform you of them. |

OKey! First off, sorry for the third post, Val, but i needed to get you guyses attentions as there being a new post here.
I have finished creating the Yahoo Group and figured out how to use it! It can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ammon777/
This is an invitation-only group. If there is anyone else that wants to play with us, please inform me on this thread. Otherwise you might have to join later when stuff has been happening already in the game. So who else wants to join?
Right now i am sending off invitations to each of you three. Having three players is good, imo, and we should not have more than nine players at most -- more than nine would get chaotic. After you accept the invitation, check out the website. There are many features on it that you will like, such as a calendar and chat.
We wont be needing any microphones.
This is meant to be a long-term campaign, so you were warned.
If ANYONE ELSE wants to play with us, NOW is the time to ask.
thx! |

More than six get chaotic and I'd recommend no more than four until you feel comfortable with the rules. The game is balanced around four characters in a party... and scaling up to six characters isn't as easy as adding 50% more monsters to an encounter. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

I think an example would work best in explaining how things worked. First combat and then a conversation:
DM -Xen
You all trudge grudgingly into the rain. If anything it's gotten
heavier, if that is at all possible. There's easily a half foot of
water on the ground. Bloodstone is a very modern Faerunian city: It
possesses functional sewers and drainage on its cobblestone streets.
However, it appears as if the storm is too much for it.
The water slows your progress... some more than others. After all,
what's barely past the ankles on Garret is knee deep to Rowan.
Visibility is awful... but up ahead you can barely make out the
yellow garbed Antonio and his rain-proof shield.
Suddenly the water behind Antonio swirls and a vaugely humanoid
figure rises from it. It's nearly eight feet tall in a matter of a
second, and whether due to canny hearing or a coward's sixth sense,
Antonio turns and gives his best ear piercing shriek...
Actions?
Me
*Althea hears Antonio's shriek, sees the figure and
draws her battleaxe. Shield readied, she charges at
the dark figure with a battlecry.*
"Tempus guide my hand!"
Garret
*Garett spins around at Antonio's shriek.*
"Well, that's something new. Antonio, get behind us!"
*Drawing his rapier and grabbing his buckler, Garett
advances on the figure.*
Rowan
The water was already at her waist, but Rowan didn't
hesitate as she saw the figure appear before them.
*Rowan pulls an arrow from her quiver and kneals down
to pull off a shot at the figure, the water now at her
chest*
Lintra's character
"Kazad!" Cries Rorik, battle axe in hand as he charges forward ....
making sure he is between the figure and Godran ... but not to strike
(yet). He wants to try and ID the creature ... after all Antonio is
a fop and screams with little excuse.
DM
OOC - Ok, here goes the sample combat round. This is why I'm getting
it out of the way early... to iron bugs out and such. I'll be open
to suggestions as well, of course.
Generally, you'll know when it's time to crack skulls (since it's not
a computer game, this can be at any time in any situation with any
amount or lack of provocation. If you feel like giving the General a
wedgie you can go right ahead and try.). I'll give you some prep
information (such as the weather, what the critter looks like) and
then you just write what your character is going to do. This is the
important bit... declare an action. It makes it faster.
If you're in doubt as to what constitutes an action... post many
actions in the order you want them to occur. I'll make as many fit
into the free/move-equiv/standard array as DMly possible.
If you want to get into character (good for you! ) write two
blocks: Description and mechanics. Example:
Description: "Bilbo rolls under the orcs' axe strike and tries to
stab him in the leg."
Mechanics: "I make a tumble check to get behind the orc and try and
stab him."
If your declared action can't succeed for whatever reason I'll let
you know and you can switch it. In addition, I'll 'pause' the game
and let people redeclare their actions (provided theirs hasn't been
resolved yet) whenever something unusual or bad happens. For example,
if Althea is going to charge the creature but it pounds the hell out
of Rorik first I'll let her change her action to 'cast a healing
spell on Rorik'. If she would 'go' before the creature pounds said
stalwart dwarf (as it would be in this situation.. no, I'm not
foreshadowing so said dwarf player can breathe easy. ) then her
original action stands.
Whew. That's not complicated or anything... here is the info for
this combat so far. Ideally I'll get an entire round resolved in one
fell swoop. Realistically I expect a few not so fell swoops
(depending largely one what the bad guys do that needs to be reacted
to).
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Mechanics:
Initiative:
Rowan: 23 (First)
Rorik: 19 (Third)
Garret: 19 (Second)
Althea: 13 (Sixth)
Antonio: 14 (Fourth)
Godran: 13 (Fifth)
Big Bad Water Thing: 4 (Last)
Declared Actions:
Rowan: Shoots It
Garret: Advances on It
Althea: Charges It?
Antonio: Shrieks Like a Terrified Child (Free Action ) and casts
Ray of Frost
Rorik: Tries to Identify the Creature
Godran: ?
BBWT: Wouldn't you like to know?
Considerations:
- It's really, really wet. Movement Rates are 1/2 normal. Lighting
isn't much of a problem at the moment, as Antonio is carrying an
everburning torch.
- The creature is 30 feet away from the party. Anyone with a 30
movement who charges can hit it. Otherwise you cross half the gap.
That's what's going to happen in the first round. Since this is
literally the first round of combat in the game I'll let people
redeclare if they're so inclined. I should have noted the mechanical
complications (the half movement and distance to creature) in my last
post... my mistake. I'm new at playing a Ruled PBeM, too.
Garret
> Garret: Advances on It
Pretty much it, but if I can get close enough, I'm
gonna stab the sucker, obviously. Just don't want
to leave myself too open.
Me
> Althea: Charges It?
Althea does a bull rush, then a shield bash when she
finally reaches the Big Bad Water Thing. Hopefully,
she'll distract the BBWT so it doesn't take Antonio's
head off. Not that she'd mind that terribly, but...
you know, that whole good cleric thing.
Rowan
Rowan is still going to shoot it.
Lintra's character
Rorik charges to close with it, to the extent possible, and since it
is too far away to actually swing at he will try to ID it ... all the
while trying to keep between the water beast and Godran.
Godran
OOC - sorry for the absence, I've been under a heavy workload. Anyway..
Godran casts magic missile "oh, I love surprises!"
If possible, he'll try to figure out just what the thing is.
OOC again - I haven't given you a list of my typical memorized spells, here they come:
0lvl: Ghost sound, Dancing lights, Ray of frost, light
1lvl: Magic missile (now gone), mage armour, change self
2lvl: invisibility, cat's grace
DM
Actions:
Rowan shoots it
Garret Moves to within 10 feet of it
Rorik Charges it
Antonio Freezes it
Godran Blasts it
Althea Bull Rushes it
Description:
Dropping to one knee and ignoring the discomfort of being chest deep
in water, Rowan unslings her bow and knocks an arrow. Antonio is
well on the other side of the creature so there's no penalty for
firing into a melee (normally there's a -4 if you don't have the
precise shot feat).
Rowan is a fantastic shot... unfortunately it seems like the wind and
rain are heavier than even she had anticipated. The arrow flies
true, despite the horrific weather, but doesn't have enough force
left to puncture the creature's watery 'hide' (Roll 2 + 8 = 10)
Garret cautiously advances on their watery foe, carefully gauging the
creatures perceived reach and looking for weaknesses. He's now 15
feet away from the creature.
Rorik isn't as much for caution. With a dwarven battle cry he
launches himself at the enemy. Wind and rain can't slow a good dwarf
down (he can't move the 30 feet, but he can charge the 30 feet).
With the additional momentum of a charge, Rorik slams into his foe
with a mighty downward chop which sends it slashing in all
directions. The enemy reforms but seems a little less cohessive than
it was previously. With charging Rorik thinks back over the annals of
dwarven history and his personal experience and comes up with the
startling revolation that the enemy is not suitable forge material.
(Roll 13 + 11 = 24, damage 3 + 4 = 7. Knowledge check = unable to be
used untrained)
Antonio, seeing his foe distracted for a second, scrabbles
desperately backwards a few feet and falls on his ass in the water.
Raising a finger he stammers out an incarnation and a blue beam of
cold shoots from his fingertips, freezing the rain it hits on its way
to the watery enemy. Rorik is now as valid a target as the creature
and Antonio's beam passes cleanly between the two as they shift
positions... leaving a light rime of frost on the stalwart dwarves
beard but doing little else. ( Roll 8 + 2 - 4 = 6, no damage to
either target).
Godran watches in amusement as Antonio fumbles for a rather
ineffective spell when firing into a melee. He easily identifies the
cantrip Antonio used as Ray of Frost. Furthermore he also easily
recognizes their foe as a medium sized water elemental. Elementals
of this size don't possess power to manifestation strong enough to
shrug off mundane weaponry... it's not even big enough to be immune
to fire. He raises a finger and barks out a harsh arcane word and
two mystical darts form and streak towards the elemental. They
penetrate the watery hide unerringly and detonate, sending twin
geysers of water ripping from its form. (Spellcraft roll: 4 + 10 =
14, Knowledge (The Planes) roll: 18 + 10 = 28 (!), Magic Missile
Damage: 3 + 4 + 2 = 9)
While all this is happening, Althea steps to the left a little so she
can not crash into Rorik. Repositioning done, she braces her shield
and, with a heary cry to Tempus which rings throughout the square,
she dashes forward. She slams her spiked shield into it, trying to
shove it away from the prone wizard. The elemental resists with a
magical strength far above the average man and refuses to budge...
though it doesn't seem very quick to reform from the splashing impact
of the shield against it. (Shield Bash: 10 + 5 = 15, Bull Rush: 10 +
3 = 13 vs 12 + 2: 14. Spiked shield damage: 5 + 1: 6)
The elemental gives a watery moan and waves rise around it. With a
gesture a small tidal wave crashes into Rorik, rattling the dwarf in
his armor and almost taking him off his feet... but the fine dwarven
steel resists the brute force of the impact and the wave cascades
around the dwarven warrior. (Attack: 8 + 4 = 12 vs AC 21 - 2 (charge
penalty this round) = 19)
That's round one. Round two actions?
Godran
"Hey, get back to what ever plane you came from and stop teasing the dwarf!"
Godran readies his crossbow *mumble* now how did this thing work *mumble*, but doesn't shoot yet because he has no direct line of fire.
DM
I remembered the half movement for Althea and Garret, but forgot
about it for Rorik. Tom was right... he coudn't reach. He could
move to about as far as Garret. For simplicities sake just ignore
the battleaxe damage he inflicted (the elemental moved forward and
tried to smoke him, though, just to keep continuity mostly intact. )
Rowan
"Ah nuts!" Rowan grumbles to herself.
*Rowan will stand and try to move closer before trying
another shot*
Me
"Bloody water demon!"
*Althea slashes at the creature with her battleaxe.*
"By Tempus' might you will fall!"
Garret
"Die, watery beastie!"
Garret will advance carefully again, probably close
enough to strike this time.
Lintra's character
"Kazad!" Rorik cries in glee as he attacks the beastie. "By Gorm
ye'll not prevail!"
DM
Declared:
Rowan repositions herself and shoots again
Garret moves five feet and takes a slash at it
Rorik brings his axe to bear
Antonio runs like hell
Godran tries to reposition himself for a clear shot
Althea brings her axe around for a chop
Description:
Rowan moves to the side, but the presence of two heavily armored
party members and a Garret is really fouling her shot. Still, she
has confidence in her skill with the bow and takes the shot. The
arrow flies unerringly through the narrow gap between the crook of
Garret's left arm and body and hits the elemental square in
its 'forehead'. The arrow blows right through and skips off Althea's
breastplate harmlessly. (Attack: Natural 20 (too bad elementals can't
be critically hit), damage: 5)
Garret, nonplussed by the arrow passing within inches of his left
kidney, takes a few well placed steps in the rain and lunges with his
rapier. Unable to discern any vulnerable anatomy, he thrusts through
where its heart should be as a matter of principle. The elemental
turns its 'head' towards the confusing piercing attacks. (Attack: 17
+ 9 = 26, Damage: 2 + 2 = 4)
Never one to waste an opportunity, Rorik issues his cry to Gorm,
Dwarven God of Guardians (Gorm may not be particularly thrilled about
protecting a coward like Antonio, but it's the principle of the
matter). Looping the axe around twice above his head he gives the
elemental a little nudge with his shield, knocking it back a half
step. The axe comes down with enough force to bisect the elemental's
watery resistance lengthwise and spark against the cobblestone
paving. The two halves of the elemental wobble for a second before
cascading, inanimate, into the street in a huge splash. (Attack 14 +
9= 23, damage: 8 + 4 = 12. Ow.)
Antonio, who was about to run like hell, pauses.
The fight is won. Now what do you all do?
Lintra's character
"Ye okay there fo ... ehr ... Antonio? And why in creation would a
heap o' water be after yer chitlins?"
As he is speaking Rorik inspects his axe for damage before shipping
it.
Me
*Althea swirls the water with her foot as she checks
for an signs of the creature.*
"I wonder where that thing came from..."
Godran
"The question is not 'where did it come from' but 'who sent it'.
Interesting, though. I've never seen one of those in action."
*Godran makes a few notes to his papers about the creature*
"Everyone okay? Let's go, then, people. I doubt it will come back but this rain alone is hostile enough to lower my mood"
*Godran starts walking again, whistling merrily*
Garret
*Garret shrugs and sheathes his rapier.*
"Didn't put up much of a fight, did it? Nice
chopping, by the way, Rorik. Water thing-a-ma-jig
never stood a chance."
Godran
"Oh, it was a water elemental, pretty small one. I hope mommy and daddy won't come looking for it" *g*
DM
The axe is made of sterner stuff than some dumb old cobblestone
street. There's not even a scratch on it.
Antonio sniffs, "Well, obviously it's because I'm a VERY important
person. If it weren't for me I'm certain the city would fall apart.
The elemental was lucky to be unbound from this plane by an axe.
Another second and I was going to send it screaming with a powerful
lightning bolt."
As Godran had determined, the creature was a water elemental.
Furthermore, Godran is aware that the creature wasn't summoned to
this plane (or it would have simply evaporated when destroyed)... it
was physically present. Anyone powerful enough to control a storm
like the one that ravages Bloodstone Pass could easily bind such a
creature into its service, which is much more difficult an arcane
task than to simply open a portal and have an elemental perform
duties for only a few minutes at most.
The puzzling thing is that they could have gated in one that was much
larger from the plane of water, if they were truly that powerful.
Why such a minor elemental? Although if it weren't for the parties
intervention then Antonio would likely be drowned by now so the
elemental was equal to the assigned task.
Where to now? The General is still waiting.
Me
*Althea frowns in thought.*
"We should report this incident to the General
immediately. If someone is sending elementals into the
city to act as assassins, then he needs to be
informed."
*Althea looks at Antonio.*
"You should probably come with us. The General will
probably want to hear your account of this incident as
well."
*Mumbles under breath so Antonio can hear her in the
pounding rain.*
"And we can keep your foppish backside from getting
spanked by another one of these things."
Godran
*Trying to keep Antonio from hearing, Godran shares his knowledge about the elemental and it's ways with the rest of the group*
"This is a bit disturbing, but we'd better continue this conversation somewhere dry and warm, I'm having a good day so lets not spoil it"
*smiles*
*Turning back, talking as loud as he can*
We must indeed report this! Antonio, would you be so kind to show us the way, as you most certainly have the upper hand in this situation."
DM
Antonio blanches.
"I'm certain there's no need for me to meet with the General. No
no... you go on without me. I'll be fine with my powerful art to
defend me..."
An overworked storm grate gurgles and bubbles beside him and he
nearly leaps into Althea's arms.
"Well... perhaps just a short meeting..."
The party moves on through the slogging rain to the headquarters of
the order. Once inside Antonio looks down miserably at his soaked
clothes and barks a short arcane incantation. He goes from soaking
wet to pristine dry and hovers near the back of the party as the
clerk shows them into the office of General Tetran Tel Adran.
The Turmish general is sitting behind his desk but rises when the
party enters.
"Well met. First, let me congradulate you in person for your actions
against the kobold king last month. You've certainly earned the
right to name your templar squad and design a heraldic symbol."
"I trust Antonio was able to gather you all without significant
difficulties?"
Me
*Althea salutes the general.*
"Thank you, sir. Actually we ran into some trouble.
Whilest on our way here a water elemental attacked
Antonio. We dispatched the beast but we suspect
someone may have sent the creature into the city.
Godran confirmed that the creature was not actually
summoned."
*Althea nods at Antonio.*
"Antonio came with us so he could give his account of
the incident as well."
Garret
*Garret nudges Antonio forward*
*whispered* "Your turn!"
DM
"What am *I* supposed to say? It was a little elemental and I was in
the process of feigning weakness to throw it off while I summoned the
art neccessary to destroy it. Just as well that it met its demise at
the hands of the weapons... a far more merciful end than the one that
I would have leveled at it, I assure you." Antonio says, trying to
edge towards the door.
"Of course I'm sure you all have fascinating things to discuss so
I'll... uh... just go secure the... something. Somehow. Yes."
General Tel Adran frowns for an instant, thinking about the presented
information.
"Attacking Antonio makes little sense... he has no real importance to
the Order or the city. (Hey! Interjects Antonio, but not to
forcefully). Certainly, if an elemental is going to be summoned up
for an extended use you would imagine that they'd target a more
devastating official."
"Perhaps the elemental was meant for another of the nobility and
mistakenly attacked Antonio. The Baroness or one of the Lords,
perhaps... yet such a small elemental could do little harm against
their guards and defenses."
"It is fortunate that your band was on their way to meet me. Left
unchecked an elemental, no matter how minor it may have been, can do
horrific damage to a city and its populace. Your quick action only
further justifies my faith in your abilities to complete the mission
that lays ahead of you."
"As you have no doubt surmised, the rain storm that has plauged the
valley for the past month is not a natural occurance. We have begun
to suspect the intervention of the Stormbringer, if we're
unfortunate, or the use of a powerful item of the Art."
"Your mission is to discover the source of this storm and report
back. DO NOT attempt to remedy the situation yourselves...
confronting whatever guardians such an important item to the enemies
cause is a task for the senior knights. Normally the higher ranking
members of the Order would attend to such a task... but evil stirs
within the mines and the dark dwarves have demanded much of our
attention. I'm sorry to have to assign you to so dangerous a task so
soon after being promoted to full knights of the Order... but of all
templars we have left your group is by far the most accomplished."
"Your first task will be to report to the Archdruidess Sedrena, the
mistress of Demonwood Forest. Her contacts within the realm of
nature and the elemental planes will hopefully have uncovered a place
for you to start searching for your answers."
"Are there any questions so far, Knights?"
Rowan
ooc: Ack! You guys shot way ahead this weekend. lol.
Instead of playing catch up, I'm just going to start
here and you all can imagine that Rowan had been
inserting her little witty comments in the earlier
posts.
*Rowan all but snorts at Antonio's explaination and
has to keep herself from busting out laughing.*
As the general continued on with his speech, she took
the moment to wring out her tunic swearing silently
that she would never be dry or warm again let alone
full. Her stomach was now beginning to grumble rather
loudly.
Lintra's character
<on the way to the General's office>
"Thanks Garret - it didn't put up much of a fight for a summoned
beastie now did it. Makes one wonder .... "
<up to date>
"Sir, we are honored be given such an important task."
__________
ooc - To Jeff ..er.. Xen .. er .. DM: Do we know where to find the
Archdruid? Are special passes etc needed?
ooc #2 - To rest of party: should we elect a spokesperson? My
Chrisma is a little lacking <grin> and so I do *not* volunteer for
the job.
Godran
"We are indeed honored, sir"
"If there's time, I'd like a little moment with the resident wizards to see if I could stock up on some necessities"

OOC: A spokesperson is a good idea, although I can't promise that Godran can keep his mouth shut, especially when talking about arcane matters And it might be boring to wait for the spokesperson to reply, especially when we're advancing this quickly. Anyway, it seems our little halfling has the best charisma.
Rowan
*Rowan looks around, eyes raised...* "Who? Me?"
*She puffs out her chest and tries to look as
dignified as a drowned halfling can get.*
If no one else is up for it, I'll do it as long as it
falls during the week. Remember, I have no net access
at home:)
DM
Don't ask ME if special passes are required to enter Demonwood
Forest. Ask the General. It's not common knowledge as few travel
there willingly (a lot of demons were killed in the forest two
centuries ago and that kind of thing leaves a mark). Everyone knows
where it's located, though... it's the only certifiable 'forest' in
the pass.
As for party spokesperson... that's entirely up to you guys. But
Althea will always be the contact person between the Order and the
party because she's a cleric and nobody is a paladin. Any other time
to any other entity you guys can have whomever you want do the
talking. Also, just because the Order will contact Althea it doesn't
mean that they value anyone else in the party's opinion any less.
anyone can speak to the General in a meeting like this.
Lintra's character
"General, sir, will we need a letter of introduction to the
Archdruid? Is there anything you can tell us about Demonwood that we
might not know, but should?"
--------------
ooc: To DM - sorry about that, I was just trying to figure out what
Rorik would already know. The General seems like an important type,
and Rorik wouldn't want to be asking questions every neophyte knows
the answers to.
Garret
No comments IC right now, but..
OOC: I vote for our noble halfling. As much fun as
leadership might be, Garret's kinda average charisma
puts him outta the running.
DM
"I would be surprised if the Archdruidess didn't know you were
coming, knight Rorik." The General responds. "As for knowledge about
the Demonwood... two centuries ago when the valley was saved several
powerful fiends were slain in the woods. Their tainted blood soaked
the earth, perverting the nature of the forest. Even after the
defeat of Orcus the woods were widely regarded as a fell place."
"Fifty years ago Serenda entered the wood and forged a druid's grove
at its heart. The healing power of Silvanus and Mielikki have spread
through much of the forest now. Still, there are places that would
freeze the blood of a hero that remain. These sites are watched
closely by the druids... you will not accidently stumble into them."
"The druids can't patrol the entire forest, however. There are
rumors of undead animals and a few lesser demons... quasits, mephits
and imps mainly... in the forest. If you are extremely unfortunate
you may encounter a Will 'o Wisp. One of our knights... Tessius...
patrols the edge of the forest closest to the city. He is a ranger.
If you'd like I can send word to him to expect your company and
assist you in reached the grove."
Me
*Althea nods.*
"A guide would be most helpful, sir. The quicker we
get to the grove, the quicker we can start our
investigation."
OOC: Doesn't matter to me who speaks for us.
Godran
"A guide will be useful, yes. Shall we set off? I'll pay a little visit to the local mages before we continue"
*Godran will try to get some scrolls of magic missile from the local mages, paying with the gems he has. He will also pack up his gear and ready his mule for the journey.*
OOC - How does the writing of scrolls work in D&D? I know it takes time and gold, some xp too, but what are the exact mechanics?
Lintra's character
Rorik responds to the General "Thank you sir. A guide would be most
helpful, as long as we can spare the manpower."
To Godran "Should you be needing a little extra gold, just ask. Your
missiles may be able to hit what my axe can not."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hopefully, this example gives you an idea of how things ran. Basically, Xen would throw us into a situation and the players would roleplay in it.
Notes:
OOC = Out Of Character - Used to differentiate between what your character says and what players are saying, like asking the DM a question.
Players didn't have to constantly invest time into the group. An e-mail every other day kept things rolling.
Despite not being the declared talker, I ended up doing it most of the time, so I might modify Althea a little for talking. I've got those character sheets somewhere.... _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

The invitations were sent.
okey, i will limit the group to six players then. For now, four sounds good to me at first, but if there is three thats fine too. Thanks for the assistance, Val and Xen, its appreciated. I can see how things will work, this should be fun!
so there is still room for one more player!
first person to give me your email address will get an invitation.
I would like to have the game continue on a daily basis, such as once per day. That would be ideal i think to keep things going on a consistent basis and the intensity might cause even more frequent feedback. I guess we'll see, eh. |

Will we be starting at level 1?
Shall we roll up attributes or would you just like to assign some, like:
16
14
18
12
15
10
Then we plug the attributes into what we want?
Example:
Fighter Joe
STR 18
DEX 15
CON 16
INT 14
WIS 12
CHA 10
Rogue Bob
STR 14
DEX 18
CON 15
INT 16
WIS 12
CHA 10
And so on?
How much money may we start with? Any restrictions on starting equipment? Like we have 3000 gold pieces to start and the value of our equipment cannot exceed that?
I'd like to re-vamp Althea and get her ready for a fight. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!
