Oblivion: Best game I never played!!! |
|
So I went out to buy Oblivion on the weekend. What do you know, it doesnt even install!!! I know this happens to alot of ppl, but why me???
I get during installation the message saying:
data3.cab
Data Error(cycle redunduncy check)
No one else appears to have gotten this error before, according to my findings. Also, it installed on my Bro's PC for some reason, so its not a faulty disc.
Any advice???
Thx. _________________ Here, take these potions, they might come in handy!!! |

...I done what was said there, i.e. copied all files from disc into temp folder, all but data3 which couldnt be copied (figures). Anyone know where I could get it or what to do???
also, I played/ tested it out on my Bro's Laptop. 3Gighz, Radeon X600 (128Mgs), 512 Ram. The graphics were impressive . Though there is one thing that is not right.
::Spoiler (kinda)::
The guy in the other cell, when he talks (even the guards) and I press tab, or Esc, i.e. when I stop their current speech, the voice of all characters stop alltogether in the game. Any thoughts on that???
Thx. _________________ Here, take these potions, they might come in handy!!! |

If you can rule out a faulty file, i.e. if data3.cab is installing fine on your bro's PC, then you should check your memory (run MemTest from a bootable CD ... www.memtest.org).
Errors with large archives are very typical for bad memory -or worse because harder to detect- an incompatibility.
I've had that before as well. I had lots of trouble with zipped demos that I downloaded from Gamer's Hell and couldn't unpack (CRC errors). MemTest did *not* report any problems on my system but the problems went away when I installed new memory.
So even if MemTest doesn't find any errors, there might still be an issue with your memory vs your memory controller etc.
This can be quite tricky so try different memory (like borrowing it from a friend's computer) and see if it installs fine then. |

It could be a faulty disk, perhaps your brother's disk reader is of a higher quality or more fault tolerant. I have a dvd-rom and a dvd-rw and have had times when a disk won't install from one and have to switch it to the other. pretty rare though - probably happened to me 2 or 3 times in my 20ish years of gaming. |
