Having browsed the FAQ and reading lots of threads I have come across folk raveing about how revolutionary Gothic is. Now, don't get me wrong, I rave about Gothic also, but it is a theme I have seen before in games I have enjoyed just as much.

Redguard would be my first example. You had a limited, fully rendered environment in which you wander, explore and encounter a variety of foes. Quests send you to certain areas but you are free to roam.

Again, Ultima9 was a similar idea, albiet better graphics and more toys and was set in a world farmiliar to most of us.

Evercrack, although an online game and subsequently a powerplay, was annother similar concept.

One could argue that those who play Gothic also go for the Uberplayer deal but those of us who crave environment, immersion, and interaction have a wonderful concept that grows and impresses with each new rendition.

Even though it is not a new concept, Gothic inspires players and developers alike to better the genre of RPG for those of us who get the most from it! So, carry on the fabulous work and let's hope the next installment of this kind of game betters those of the past!
