Havenīt been in one for years. HardOCP, Tomīs Hardware Guide and AnandTech used to be quite good.

I will ask though it sounds like you know a great deal, but did you update the bios? I had similar issues as well and it was the mother board and HD going out. Hope you get it resolved.  Let us know what you find out.

Finally, my problem is solved.
Despite numerous memory tests that gave no errors, everything seems fine after i got new RAM... Swapping is something I should've done before everything else- but who could've thought memory tests can be so unreliable?

The RAM is not necessarily defective. Maybe itīs just incomaptible to your mainboard.

How would I tell if the RAM is compatible? I looked at ASUS website, and couldn't find any info... |

Itīs almost impossible to know. Sometimes mainboard manufacturers put up compatiblity lists. Big memory manufacturers also have this, but the lists are hard to find and include only the biggest brands.
All you can do is buy brand memory modules (not only chips!) and pray.
