Each camp has its benefits. Don't worry, each camp has magic, though different kinds. OC has fire, NC has water, and the cult thingy has 'brotherhood' magic. Refer to the manual (on Xicat's website) for spell info.

Ty

Brotherhood spells (mind spells) don't appeal to me.
so it is either fire or water for me.
Water has the freeze spells which would be useful for multiple oppents, so I think I'll give NC a try.

Actually you can use any kind of magic, it doesnt matter which character class you are. Just get the appropriate runes. You can easily beat up some mages or gurus to get them (just try to avoid the invincible ones *g*).

I'll give you a more thorough answer.

New Camp:
Pros: You start off with very powerful close combat weapons. This is because you may beat up Rogues, and NO ONE will interfer.
Cons: You don't get to learn Magic Circles until the very end of the game. And you don't learn how to use Crossbows until late in the game.

Old Camp:
Pros: You have an equal chance at Magic, and weaponry.
Cons: Things that the Old Camp offer are mediocre. If you want some powerful items, you'll have to get them elsewhere.

Sect Camp:
Pros:: You get to learn Magic right away. Templars are very, very powerful warriors. Unlike soldiers in the New Camp, or the Guards in the Old Camp. Also, Templars are all over the colony. - This means that if you ever get into a fight, those Templars will be there for you.

Cons: You get very weak close quarters weapons. Weapon skill levels are of low priority. I don't even think you can learn how to use a Bow or Crossbow within the Sect Camp.

One addition:
Sect Camp:
Cons: Maximum magic circle = 4!

Hint: beofre joining any camp, go to all 3 of them and complete the quests they'll set upon you to become one of them. this is in my opinion the best way to earn xp points at an early stage.

The storyline is completely linear.

No matter what camp you join, you do the exact same quests.

It's just that some camps give you better shit to do the quests with.

Hi Folks!

I was wondering along these lines as well.

Is you join the Sect does that mean you can never learn above the 4th circle because the other camps' mages are the only ones that can teach you 5th and 6th circles?

By "late in the game" for the New Camp do you mean that the game is almost over before you can get magic there?

Thanks!

Templars are limited to level 4 magic.

When you get magic in the NC you are at least 2/3 through the game.

i have played the german version early this year. and i really enjoyed this game. the best way to play gothic:

just do what you want , don't ask yourself will i miss something if i do this, what follows if i do that ->

REAL rpg playing is

- fall in the hole and get a way out
- make mistakes and try to correct them
- win a fight with a bad weapon using tricks
- say the wrong things to the wrong people
and face the consequences

let the game flow... it's more fun and instead of battling through the game in 35 hours with a walkthrough you can enjoy every aspect of the game 100+ hours.

search not for the BEST way through the game - there is no best way, make YOUR OWN way through the game.
