Yeah. Its a cute German way of making fun of our stupid nudity laws.
I just realized that whole bikini difference thing in the American retail version. sheesh.
We allow minors to play with rifles and shotguns, but we cant allow them to look at a couple of titties! Only in America! |

Actually there are no nudity laws in the U.S., developers are free to make their games as they wish. It's the distributor's choice for censorship who want to market the game to a wider audience, hence make more money. |

Well there are some laws like dealing with the internet and the fact that any nude peep's must be 18 years or older or its labled as "child pornography"?
You naughty Germans better be looking at women over 18 in Gothic or America will enact diplomatic pressure by not buying....ehhh... just what do we buy from Germany? Chocolates? |

There isn't any censorship laws concerning the internet either...otherwise those porn sites you visit every day wouldn't exist
18 or older for anything porn related is a worldwide standard, not just in the US friend. |

There are laws in the United States about nidity and games. Each game has a rating on it. I have misplaced the box my game came in; but most assuridly it has a rating on it. E for everyone, T for teen, M for mature, etc.

When I sais laws:
There are implied laws. Those zealots are in office you know. The reason why all the games haven been pulled off yet is because we have first ammendment protections. whew.
If our guard is let down, Valya in a bathing suit would be considered too much.
...then it will be illegal to see women's ankles on the beach again... |

I thought congress passed a law that required all porn sites to give access only to people 18 or older by charging by credit card. Yeah, yeah, there are sites that dont follow this or use some "ehem" creative ways around this. But its still a law in the US from what I heard. |

What law is there concerning nudity and games? Can you name the specific legislation please?
Don't confuse law with the ESRB. The ESRB, that gives games their ratings, is not a federnal government agency. There's no restriction on nudity in games. If a game happens to feature nudity, then it gets an M rating...simple as that.
Why do distributors often impose censorship on developers? Because many stores will not carry games with the M rating, like Walmart. Hence, to make as much profit as possible, distributors like Interplay often tell their developers to censor their games for the mass audience, which Developers usually comply or not have their game published.

Yes, but that has absolutely nothing to do with censorship. To buy or sell anything porn related, online or not, the law has always required a verified age of 18. |

One last thing on game ratings, the ESRB is like the MPAA, which gives movies their ratings like PG-13 or R. It's a guideline for consumers, nothing else.
And, its voluntary...that's right, voluntary. A game doesn't have to be rated if the distributor doesn't want it to be rated.
Also I said before a game with nudity will probably get an M rating, well if its an adult oriented game it will get the AO rating, which is equivalent to the X or NC-17 rating for movies. |

There are different regulations for animation vs static art. The woman in the tub lifts her leg, washes, then plunges her hands out of site and arcs her back. This is suggestive. The portrait is no different than an art museum.
Try Daggerfall. You can strip naked and it shows everything on the portrait screen. If the game had a third person view, they wouldn't have been able to get away with that. |
