Just picked up the Platinum version

Ive heard alot of good things about the multiplayer aspects of this game, so Ive decided to make the purchase. However, I dont know anyone else that owns the game, and I understand the single player campain is a bit dull (not sure about with the expansions), so here's hoping I can find a good NWN community to hook up with to play.

Of course, Im just now installing the game, so Ill take the time to run through a bit of the single player campain to learn the mechanics. Are there any specifics I should know between teamwork in the solo game and teamwork in the MP game ?

My class of choice in most games is a healing type, so hopefully Ill see some of you in game as Faunuk the dwarven cleric !

Welcome to the world of NWN. lol I suggest you play well into the expansions if you want to be ready for what you will find in the MP mods that are out there. Also, be sure to go to the NWN site and get updates, etc. There is a NWN dedicated server we have access to. See forum at top of page. Once you have played sp for a while, check the game times there.

Yes, as CM says, welcome to the World of NWN. We run a dedicated server here 24/7 for NWN online MP. Usually we have one of two PW's running. Here, you create a server character and follow the storyline or just adventure. You can play by yourself, or as part of a group. Tell your friends and they can all join you.

In addition to this, we run regularly scheduled sessions often under the control of a DM. For these we use different mods. (There are thousands). Again, you can create a different server character for these campaigns. We are trying to organise more of these to suit our visitors, so drop into the Games Server Forum, read up on all the details and make some suggestions, or sign up for a campaign. We have a new one that just started running on Tuesday Evening US time which you are welcome to join. Again, all details are in the Forum. Hope to see you there!!

Skip the official campaign and dig into the expansions, they are much higher in quaility.

Thanks for the advice. Ive heard the solo aspect of the game is lacking a bit, but Im very excited to start playing MP. I went through the tutorials last night and the game doesnt seem to hard to figure out. Once you get the quickbar configured to your liking, it seems pretty easy to control. I have to get use to the camaras though. I was having a hard time walking my character around.

As far as the MP servers, how do they work ? Do you need a find a few players to play with before going into the MP game ? I understand there are servers with persistant worlds, but how do they work ? How is playing in a persistant world (is this what is meant by the reference to "PW" ?) different than playing a MMORPG like EQ ? After jumping into a MP game for a minute last night just to see what it was, it seemed a bit like the Battlefield 1942 servers where you can only have up to a certain amount of players per server. Is that how it is ? How do quests work on a server like this ?

There are different types of MP games. Our server currently mainly runs a PW. This means you can play in it anytime. Sometimes you may be the only one there, at other times several people may be there. You can either join up with them, or play against them, or simply ignore them. Each PW has in built quests and battles as well as a story line you may either follow or ignore. It's up to you.

The other type of MP game, is a structured one often run by a DM. This lasts about 2 hours and involves a team of players working together. We run these as well. Check in the Forum for details. Could I also suggest that if you wish to continue this discussion, that you do so in the Games Server forum, as that would be a more appropriate place. Hope to see you there.

The original campaign is really awful, the later expansions are generally liked a lot more. The mods are what is going to get you your money's worth out of the game, you should look for reviews and favourite mod listings as there are so many of them, and a lot are poor, that you need to sort the wheat from the chaff.

As for multiplayer, you just have to make sure you are playing with someone you know and like. The style of game changes a lot depending on what map/mod you are playing too. I'm sure if you ask around you'll get plenty of recommendations.

Differences between SP and MP? Be careful

1. In MP there is NOT the "pause" button so you've to carefully watch your step. Monsters don't let you choose peacefully spells or tactics before attacking you. You HAVE to be prepared all the times...

2. Maybe it will seem obvious but in MP there is not a savegame available is something goes wrong. Again, watch your steps

3. In SP you play what the game designers wanted you to play, you cant give deep thoughts to yours characters and play non-stereotypes heroes (or villains...) In the MP game you can be whatever you want to be and play that role with others human player...

4. In many PW there is a limit between 2 rests. So if you use to play a magician don't waste your spells in 1 fights because - maybe - you've to wait 10-15 minutes before resting again. If you're a fighter or similar, on the contrary, maybe you'll never see the warning in your life eheheh

5. There are a LOT of PW in internet. You have to choose knowing what you want to play. Full-RPG PWs are PWs in which it's more important making and playing coerent characters, giving them "a lot of personality". Action PWs are something like diablo-style games, you enter, you level up a lot your character and you play fighting others eheh

There are a lots of pros in the MP game that I've to write all the morning to the exaustive That's for now...

Average ratings? SP 3, MP 10!
mmmm no no no I'm in love with NWN...
