Not with a bang, but a whimper *sigh*

Well, after patching to 1.19 to play multiplayer none of my server stored characters are showing up, and EVERY character I make gets the message 'invalid character'.

I'm manually downloading the patch to reinstall it... maybe something went wrong with the auto-updater. Then I guess I'll have to write tech support or wait for the next patch.

Oh well. It was fun while it lasted? *sigh*

The manual reinstall of the patch almost fixed the problem. I could create new characters on servers I haven't played on... and access a few of my 'old' characters on servers I had...

Then gamespy kept timing out trying to connect to servers or even validate my name and password.

I counted to 10 and closed the program. Deep breath, good nights sleep, and maybe it will all blow over.

I mainly blame Gamespy.

Dude..here is my advice on your predicament. Take Neverwinter Nights to the place you bought it and procede to beat the clerk down with the game box.

Tempting, but I'd rather direct my evilness at a more deserving target. Gamespy's owners or a programmer or three or something.

I was getting an "Invalid CD-Key" message on a lot of servers... #$@! Do they want to see the [expletive] receipt?

Bioware has suggested that a 5 min timeout wait is required after the hosting server crashes. The server crashes are very common after 1.19 patch.

After an abnormal disconnect occurs, it could take 5 minutes for the authentication system to realize that you are no longer connected to that game, during which time your CD Key is considered in use.

Doesn't explain my missing characters or inability to create a 'valid' character for any online game anywhere there, does it? I looked around last night and found zip.

If you checked the official site, Bioware acknowledged that this was a bug and promised that they would put up a fix (should we make a pool what will break by next patch? ). The same problem also affect SP game but there is a way to get around it in SP.

I haven't dared try SP since it happened. Instead I completed Jedi Knight 2.

I really did look around the site. I guess I missed it. I do have confidence that Bioware WILL fix my problem... they're still my personal highest rating company (second was Sierra years ago) when it comes to supporting products.

Use the search function. Even if you select today's post only, the topics you look for can be buried on page 23 out of 26. Actually the announcement is a sticky post by a Bioware programmer (he mentioned about enough hate mails for the subject). Well, Bioware has 1 more month to screen out all the MP bugs before I get my fat pipe in August. It works out fine for me so far.
