a question for all of you from the US and anybody else:)

ok I'm in the US for bussiness and every where I go ppl keep saying happy memorail day to me and my friends are planing a big party with lots of bbqing going, apparently this is nation wide in memorail day, I admit that I'm from a different culture and all that but shouldn't ppl not be so happy in a day that's dedicate for ppl who gave thier lives for thier country?, shouldn't ppl be a bit more serious about the whole thing?

thoughts comments?

Yes, they should be serious enough to at least attend a memorial day service. However many will not even know why it is called memorial day or who the memory is suppose to be for.

There are a great number who do at least hold to the tradition of flying a flag, going to a service somewhere, or being part of a flag service at some local.

Bottom line is it ends up being a day off work, an unofficial start of summer so to say, and the soldiers who died are not part of what comes to mind.
