I have been hearing a lot about Bloodlines and I was wondering if the original is any good. What kind of game could it compaire too, and how good are it's graphics? I could certainly get it for cheap now.

I think it compares nicely with Diablo

I don't think that asbestos suit is going to help you.

Masquerade is a good game. I'd compare it to Gothic and Ultima 9 in the gameplay feel. There's less freedom and it's pretty linear, but the story is solid and the graphics are good. The graphics are a step up from Ultima 9, but not quite on par with Gothic.
I certainly think it's better than Morrowind. But then again, I value story over most other gameplay aspects.

*Ponders saving Xen, then shrugs and turns away*
I value story too. I still like some really old games, like Daggerfall for example, where the graphics are questionable but the gameplay is great. Graphics aren't everything.

True, if the story doesn't keep our interest and the gameplay is flat, then what good are pretty graphics?

Nothing. A game that can not keep your interest in the story or gameplay itself, but has extremely nice graphics is nothing in my opinion. I know many people who place graphics above everything and I can't understand it. Sure it LOOKS nice but the game is terrible in every way. Another example of an old game that I absolutely love is Ultima 7, in my opinion the best game ever made, or RPG anyway.

Ah, the Ultimas. Those games were so great.
You shoud try out some of Spiderweb Software's games if you want to be reminded of the Ultimas.

Spiderweb Software is an indie developer. I've played and reviewed several of their games. I really like the Avernum and Geneforge games. The games all have demos that let you get a good feel for them. You should try them out.

Val, so you recomend Ultima 9?
I bought when it first came out and it had so many bugs, especially with the sound as I remember, its seems so long ago, now heh
It was basicly unplayable and I had I high performance machine at the time.
I never went back to it, out of the sheer frustration it caused.

I would recommend Ultima IX. It's been awhile since I played it, since my CD exploded but it is a great game. One of the best of it's time in my opinion. And with the patch, all the bad bugs are eliminated and it is even better, although I have never really had a problem with bugs in it. Of course, I loved mostly all of the Ultimas so...and if you can play VII. It is one of the best RPGs ever in my opinion.

And thanks for the link Val. You're always pulling through for me.

Certainly. Just install the patch and save often. You'll have a great time with it. I remember playing it on my killer system years ago and it was a bit choppy, but on my current XP system it runs like a dream.
Masquerade also runs great on XP. It just needs the patch.

@Dunmer King: You're welcome!
