if they don't open then they don't open
nothing to be done about it but rest assured that everybody that played the game for the first time tried to open them(or was it just me  )

you have to be a citizen for him train you lp, each craftsmen has their own way of testing your want to be a citizen, that way is his
You'd have to pass the other tests and become a full citizen before the bless quest will work for you getting lp |

dunno about caskets, but Diego can teach you lockpicking in the later part of the game:)

I'm not a citizen and he trained me. I got the gold for Matteo from the women staying in his house, and then gave him 200 gold. He trained me after that. |
