Arrow Types, Any Difference?

I was wondering if anyone knows of a difference between the types of arrows that you use with a given bow. For example, is a Chitin bow better at firing Chitin arrows? Also, aside from weight and cost, and ability to hit creatures that require silver or higher... what's the deal? It seems like damage is governed by the bow, so is there any reason to buy the pricier arrows?

Thanks,
