Not entirely correct. I believe I heard somewhere that they took that feature out because griefers complained that their mules would be griefed...

PvP done properly is fun. I think most people would agree with that. But, the flaw with the majority of these games is that they don't promote "consensual PvP". Certain cohorts of players' seem to always want to prey on the weak ....and they will exploit to achieve this if necessary.

To counteract this behaviour, game-design is going to have be watertight. This is not easy to accomplish though. How do you make an open ended gameworld, that promotes freedom of choice but allows no exploitation, and incorporates a moral/ethical compass for the population to be guided by ?

Even the real world hasn't achieved this. So, will a computer game ?

Mixing diametrically opposed personality types never works. It offers conflict .... the purpose of gaming is fun. People will not pay to be griefed. MMROPGs need some degree of conflict to work, but it is a very fine line to get right.

Wrong. Ive been up to speed with everything the Darkfall developers say and they havent said anything like that. Its must be just a rumor. Also the devs dont make design decisions based on what the griefers want.

If you have proof (a link to a dev quote) by all means share it with me.

Hmm, naah i don't have any proof. I just remember seeing one of the devs saying in the Darkfall chatroom that they were reconsidering the feature because of the negativity directed against it. I did not not say they dropped it entirely or anything. But i did not keep a log of that one...

They probably go through a lot of phases during the design process. Im glad to know they are considering all options. Happy New Year btw.
