Definitely a healthy attitude to have.

That's definitely the attitude of my wife's family. My wife has five "siblings" - an adopted brother, a half-brother, a half-sister, and a "brother" and "sister" who are not related at all (sort of step-brother and step-sister, but not really; too complicated to explain here). Despite their different family origins, they all call each other as brother and sister. In a way it's really cool how they've come together as a family. On the other hand, this blending has created some other serious issues for them, which may never be resolved. So just try to be a little picky as to whom you're accepting into your family.
