What's Your Favorite Game Intro?

I love movies... and I love games. So one of my favorite things in any game is a great and thrilling intro movie. It really gets you in the mood... even if the game itself sucks.
So I was just wondering if any of you have a particular favorite game intro? Mine has to be Freelancer; the part where the sleep ships take off and all hell brakes loose in space! And coupled with the soundtrack, I was ready to pop some popcorn and break out the snacks and sodas.
Well?

Hard to tell what I consider the "best" intro, but when it comes to setting the atmosphere of the game, the Thief intros (1 and 2) beat all others, hands down.

Gothic 2 got me roused (NOT aroused). I also like Halo's intro. But the best one in all of history has to be the intro to the strategy game Startopia. It makes fun of 2001: A Space Odyssey!

Black and White

For me it's got to be Black and White. It starts in the game engine where a small child swims out to sea and two sharks head rapidly towards him. His parents pray for someone to save him, and with that spark of belief the player is born. Things shift into FMV showing the player coming into existence as a new God and rushing through the cosmos towards the world, racing over the landscape (and switching from FMV back to the game engine), just in time to dip his hand into the water and pluck the child out of danger. The child is deposited next to his parents and the hand remains, hovering slightly above the beach. Then your conscience appears in the form of Good and Evil, and the game begins.

On occasion I've started a new player just to see the intro movie, then quit. Quite apart from the sheer polish of that sequence, the seamlessness of it is quite unrivaled by anything I've played before or since. It's a marvellous start to a game.

I thought Diablo 2 had a pretty nice intro, although I'm not a big fan of the game.

Fallout 1 & 2 hands-down. I still giggle when I see the slide for the G.E.C.K. with the little "results may vary" disclaimer.

The cinematics in Diablo 2 are some of my favorite movies in a game ever.

I also like the Fallouts... so simple, so poignant.

And of course... Planescape Torment.

Meh... I won't decide.

Diablo 2 intro/outro. Mainly the one with "men walking out, fire behind him and and his cloak... Well, very nice work (and if we consider that it is so old).

And here is another one - Gorasul intro. This one was not so good graphicaly, but intro song was so perfect, that it changed this intro into something really special.

Metal Gear Solid ' s intro
Syberia ' s intro
and LotR:RotK a new intro in every stage of the game from the 3 movies nice
but boring when you lose and you had to start all over...

WC 5 intro, but that 's because it was my first good PC Game of the last ten years. (I don't remember the intro off Pacman or spaceinvaders. Even Double Dragon is a blank spot.)

I certainly enjoyedthe Gothic intros, but that's even more because of the fact that the game is so great.

One of my favorite game intros was the one of SoulBlade for the PSOne way back. It was very nicely paced and cut, and it had great animations for its time.

Overall, my favorite game movies (intro, outro, in-game FMVs) include those of

a ) Diablo 2 for all the reasons given, they set a beautiful atmosphere
b ) Realms of the Haunting - I have seen better animations, but the real actors were outstanding - great acting, great atmosphere, even in the translated and dubbed version
c ) Lands of Lore 2 - mainly because Paul Bastardo did a really good job in portraying Luther.

I think my favorite intros are from the Fallouts and from Alien vs, Predator. But I think I have forgotten some good ones.

I just remembered the Syndicate intro! Not a patch on Black and White, but an excellent intro nevertheless.
