Hints/Help for a Solo Farie Ninja

Hey, I've completed the game with a standared party, and after spending some time with Diablo II, I'm up for a challenge.

So, stats to raise? Skills to raise?

I know I'll be getting the CoC, where do I need to save to do that? In the room? outside?

Where do people train stealth?

Thanks

First off, welcome to the boards.

Now then...

CoC: No need to worry about saves. That item always appears in the same place. For general reference, treasure is set the first time you enter a map (which you can ID because of the load screens). If you're concerned about random loot, you need to save right before you enter a zone for the first time. The most common place to worry about that is before going onto Nessie's map.

Stealth: Usually, stealth is trained against seekers. They're always in the upper monestary, in the control room and near Altheides.

Stats and skills will depend a little on your style. I'd probably boost dexterity and speed for better AC and more attacks. Plan on spending some time training up your alchemy with knock-knock in the bank. That will allow you to mix potions, which could be useful for cash and healing.

Thanks for the quick response, but I've heard that the Don won't always drop it, I'll keep a save right outside of trynton anyway.

Any level I should be for training stealth?

Edit: Could I do it without training stealth?

I've never heard of the Don not dropping the CoC. Wonder if someone hit an error in their install or something. Perhaps someone tried to pickpocket him and didn't find it?

You could probably manage without stealth training, but it would be much more difficult. For a solo run, I think you'd want to take the time. There's no level requirement to train it, so you can spend that time whenever the mood struck (although you won't be too high up the food chain when those two seeker encounters are available). For that matter, you wouldn't want to be too high in level or the autoleveller will boost those seekers up to seeker stalkers or greater seekers (which wouldn't be as good for training).

@Dteowner - "I've never heard of the Don not dropping the CoC." you must not be playing enough Wiz 8 then

It has been calculated that there is approximately a 70% chance of the Don dropping the CoC. I just got the Astral Dominae from him, but no CoC dropped. This is only the second time for me that the CoC has not dropped.

Monster drops are determined at the time of death of the monster. So saving right before attacking the Don will be fine.

I've also had the Don not drop the CoC before. And I think _gator's right about treasure being generated at death. I killed the Don multiple times to get different treasure with only saving right before killing him.

I was talking about chests and such. I expect _gator and Val are correct about the timing of monster drops.

I've only killed the Don a couple times and always got the CoC. I hadn't heard of it not appearing before, but I bow to the wisdom of others.

Thanks for the info,

After Dex and Speed, what other stats should I raise? Int? Str? Senses?

I've decided to do this without training any skills. We'll see how it goes. I'm just getting started in the Lower Monestary so we'll see how it goes.

Strength will help your damage, carry capacity, to hit, and number of attacks.
Vitality will help your hit points, stamina, and carry capacity.

Intelligence will raise your skills faster, but they should raise enough on their own.
Piety will help your stamina, but Vitality will give the Ninja more benefits.
Senses will help initiative, but so does Speed.

You may want to consider raising your Strength and Vitality some before maxing out Dexterity and Speed all the way. It should make the beginning of the game a little easier.

My question doesn't actually pertain to a Solo Faerie Ninja but rather for my Faerie Ninja in my party. I've gotten the CoC by pickpocketing it from Don Barlone, awesome weapon. But what's a good offhand weapon? I _think_ it would be best if I stuck to one weapon skill (staff/wand), so are there any good offhand staff/wand weapons for a Faerie Ninja? If so, where and what are they? If there aren't, what about some other recommendations? Thanks!

If you want to keep with the same weapon type, then the best offhand staff for the FN is the Rod of Sprites. Problem is that they only drop from Crag, Peak, and Cliff Sprites and the chance is small.

Other choices are the Winterwand, Thunder Stick, FlameQuencher Wand, Wand of Winds, Wand of Static, Shillelah, and Faerie Stick.

If you decide you could try something other than a staff, then the Sprite's Dagger or Canezou Dagger are good.

Thanks Gator. Picked up the Sprite Dagger and it's working well.
