Try Gothic I-II.

I've been looking for a long time. Other than the Gothic series as Esrohnoil said, and the two you have, there just isn't anything out there yet. Kult is a little like it, not much, but a little, but it is only out on demo for now in US. Guess we have to wait of Arx2 to really get a similar one.

Go here for the G1 demo. Kult I did a net search for and found the demo on their site. You will like gothic I think. Haven't met anyone yet who likes RPG's who didn't love it.

Ultima Underworld I & II were an inspiration for Arx. They are quite old but still very good games.

What about Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind? Arx has a lot of that kind of gameplay and looks very similar. Of course, Morrowind blows it away.

I loved Arx, UU1 & UU2, but Morowind was one of the most boring games I have ever played in my entire life.

That of course doesnt ensure that you wont like it. I just strongly recommend you read up on it before you try it. It definately seems to be an "You either love it or hate it" game.

I'm with Chekote on Morrowind. I found it too boring and too long of a game with a lot of just walking and talking to even find where or what you wanted. I don't compare it to Arx's at all. But that is up to you.

Over at the TTLG forums (fan-forums for Looking Glass games and their successors) people are interested in Looking Glass titles and games which are similar to LG titles.
Now Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 were made by Looking Glass, and Arx is most similar to these two games. Other games people over there tend to like because they are similar in atmosphere at least are, among others: the Thief series, the System Shock series, the Deus Ex games (all of them at least started by LG), Morrowind and recently, Gothic 1 and 2. Other LG fan favorites which don't have forums of their own but are often mentioned: Clive Barkers Undying and RotH, but both are more action-oriented, and horror.

I for my part like Morrowind (as you might be able to tell), but I agree, it's a bit different from the others - more of a relaxing cross-country hike than a classical, claustrophobic dungeon crawler. But it's still on the list of LG fan favorites, so you might try to check it out as well.

Heretic II
It's quite old but I still play it and it's got multi and there are still some
places where it's played today. Some differences of course but you still
have the fantasy world, mythical creatures, weapons, and magic. The
puzzles are not hard ,but hey look at how old the game is. There was supposed to be a Heretic 3 which would be close to arx but I think that project got canned some time ago. http://www.hereticii.com/index.php

Raven Software's Project Administrator Kenn Hoekstra.:

There are a good number of people at Raven who would definitely enjoy making a Hexen III or a Heretic III. The trouble is, we have so many great projects lined up that it's difficult to find the time or resources to do them all. When forced to choose between JKII and SoF2 and Hexen III, we opted for the former. But who knows what the future will bring?

Let's not forget another old classic which Arx Fatalis was obviously inspired by: Stonekeep.
Have fun trying to get it to run nowadays though...
