Garrett: I have a feeling according to your latest news bit for divinity, that it's not gonna be what you have expected.
Compare it to Diablo 2 is sure no compliment comming from you?

Maybe it's Diablo goes RPG *g*.

We hope to get a playable demo soon - we'll see. So far, i trust it will be an excellent game...

Well, I'm also a bit more optimistic, and look forward to a demo soon!

Okay Garrett, so you don't agree that Divine has some Diablo style over it! Or is it not that important for it's overall gameplay!

Well, from I learned so far about Divinity, it is a real RPG - while Diablo is nothing more than some isometric Doom with a few RPG elements.
I really enjoyed Diablo 1, but D2 was a total disappointment for me.
But Divinity looks very promising, epic, story driven and action combat - that's the way I wanna CRPG!!!

This game looks like it could be another underappreciated classic. If it is as good as I hope it is, lets hope it achieves a lot of success. While Arc Fatalis, Divine Divinity and Arcanum all look amazing, I wonder if any of them will achieve the justified sales. Market awareness is fairly low for all 3 titles.

Don't forget Gothic in that list. I don't think it has much in the way of market awareness. I think once the international market starts picking that one up and reviewing it, it will pick up some more recognition.

Aaaaaaaaarrgghhhh - These constant Diablo comparisons are driving me completely gaga and tutu. I'd really wish that people would wait with making that assessment until they get their preview version. It is NOT a Diablo clone - the closest and best description I've heard so far is "How we would've made Ultima VIII", but even that doesn't describe it accurately. It's just...hmmm...different. And way cool of course

Of course, if we would get that demo version out today, rather than tomorrow, I wouldn't have to sit here in constant frustration.

Best get back to working on that. Btw, again, I really want to say that this site has become a gem.

Hi Lar, welcome to our forums - and thanks a million for the flowers *g*.

I completely understand your frustration - give yourself some relief and release the demo soon - I am really looking forward to it *g*

[BTW - I think it's about time to open the Divine Divinity forum here ]

@Lar: I feel that many people like these comparisons - because it makes things a bit simpler. But I definetely can't believe that many people think about Divine Divinity that it's just a simple Diablo clone.

Definetely.

Is looking forward to your demo:

Hey Lar,

good to see you here

Well, to be honest, I can at least guess why some people think it's a Diablo clone. From the gameplay movies that have been released so far, one must come to thinking that there's some Diablo in Divinity. The question is: How much ? And the other interesting question is: When do you start calling a game a clone of another game ?

Not easy to answer. Let Divinity answer that question for you and release that preview version ASAP to prove the gaming press wrong

I say let's finish the game first and worry about the demo later.
In my opinion players and gaming press come to expect from developers that they need to release a demo. Making a demo costs time and sometimes it needs to be a stripped version of the real thing to save space. I've played demos where this did not do any justice to the final game.
I'd rather see a finished game on time than a demo instead.

I agree, the demo can wait. Arcanums demo just made me more impatent for the full game. I have to say that the game reminds me more of Ultima 7 and Planescape then Diablo.
