Atari Clarifies BG3/NWN2 Position |
|
PC.IGN has managed to get hold of Brandon 'Grok' Smith to discover the story behind his intriguing "announcement" of BG3 and NWN2 on the Atari boards on April Fools Day. It seems when he said these titles are "on the horizon", he meant w-a-y over the horizon:
Well, now that we're into the working week, we've had a chance to check with that very same Atari PR rep, Brandon Smith, as to just what's going on. As it stands right now, neither title has been officially announced. Rather, the point of his post was to say that Atari owns the rights to both of these franchises (and all new Dungeons & Dragons videogames for that matter), and has no intention to abandon either of them. In other words, even if Baldur's Gate III is not in active development right now, Atari has every intention of producing another Baldur's Gate title for the PC. Further, they know very well that another BG title has big shoes to fill, given the glowing reception that the first two games received from both critics and players. Atari wants to do right by the series.
Read it all here. Thanks, Jamey. |

Useless PR blah blah. No publisher will ever admit that they abandon a franchise. After all their shareholders might hold them responsible for buying a license and then just sitting on it with their fat ass. |

Well. Brandon Smith is an untrustworthy sort from what I remember. I had no idea he was the same guy as 'Grok', but it sure explains one thing or TEN.
Sheesh! |

As long as Atari keep sitting on "Night of the Raven" without releasing it, I have nothing but contempt towards them.
Besides, I would much rather see a PlaneScape:Torment2 than a NWN2. _________________ Signature? ... erm ... nope, can't think of one. |

Great news! This definately means that BG3 (NWN2 is a no-brainer) is coming out! Only problems are, when it is coming out, and who is developing it. My guess? Bioware or Obsidian.
Planscape 2? I wouldn't want that without the original PS team working on it. Better to keep it as a classic without ruining it with a sequel. _________________ The world is small, nasty and complicated, and everybody dies alone... - Sam Fisher |
