Okay, completed Gothic 2, must... get... more.... Gothic.... |
|
This game is addictive.
I finally completed Gothic 2 and loved it! I wish more developers in the States could make games like this. It reminds me of Morrowind in some ways, and I would like to see more of these "action-RPGs" that give us the ol' stat, inventory & dialogue system but replace the standard D&D combat with our own hotkeys and mouse movement.
So now I'm looking at what is available so that I can play more Gothic.
Could anyone give me the quick lowdown on what are the essentials for an English-speaking gamer? It looks like there is a huge mod community for Germans. Doh! I knew I should have taken more than one year of German in high school. LOL
Is the Raven expansion worth it with a proper translation mod? I really don't want to spend money on it only to get burned? Is the mod buggy? Does it work well or take away from the experience at all?
Are there any English mods that are awesome on Gothic?
And finally, is there a cheap way to order Gothic 1?
Muchas gracias. |

As I pointed out in another thread, eBay is usually a cheap way to pick up Gothic 1. You can also search the bargin bins of the local stores that sell video games. I've still seen copies of it around. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!
What do I have to show for my hard work? A piece of paper! Wee!

I was like you after I finished Gothic 2, I had to play gothic 1. As you know your playing in reverse order but surprisinly, the narrative of the story still remains strong in Gothic 1 even though you know what is sort of going to happen in the future. But I had just as much fun with 1 as I did 2.
From what I understand, the English version to the Gothic 2 add on is not to far off so you may want to hold off for a while playing (as opposed to buying) Gothic 1. |

it's great that you guys looked for g1 after loving g2, but what about those of us who already played them both in order, what can we do while we wait for g3, i will probably replay both of them again, but there's only so much you can do that, i definitely don't want to get sick of gothic, that would be horrible!
what do i do? _________________ The Gothic series (gothic and gothic 2 for PC) are the best games ever and you must play them immediately, after playing these games, no other rpg will do, in fact, i use gothic as the perfection to which I compare all other games |

The add-on should, according to the devs, be out in a month or two in English. I have my doubts whether or not that is true, so I advice you to pick up a cheap version of the german add-on, and patch it with english subtitles(several threads regarding how to do so here on RPGdot).
Yes, the add-on is more than worth it. It's really good in fact, and adds quite a lot to the game. A little warning though - the add-on is much tougher to beat than the original(most mobs are seriously upgraded).
All in all, it's a great add-on for the addictive Gothic 2 player, and there are a lot of those by now!
Welcome to the forums btw. |
