You will get a stronghold (room) after you climb the "house ladder" to the top if you join one of the four great houses. |

Can you expand on that, to us casual MWers, cryptic comment? _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

Technically there are seven... :-) |

I think it was a comment on the number of Great Houses. While there are only three houses you can join in the game, those are only the great houses that have footing on the island of Vvardenfell - Hlaalu (thieves), Redoran (fighters) and Telvanni (mages).
You'll hear talk of two other great houses currently in existence that are based on the Morrowind mainland - Dres (farmers & labourers) and Indoril (religion). Vivec and Molag Mar are house Indoril buildings, and as they are so closely linked with the Temple, the Ordinators' armour is known as "Indoril" armour.
The "Sixth House", of course, is house Dagoth. Sleeping for many years, it has risen and threatens peace on the island and indeed on the whole continent. This is the house that causes all the problems on Vvardenfell.
However, there is another house - House Dwemer - of which there is only one member left... _________________ Charlie Dobbie

@cfmdobbie - From the way the comments were written, it implied there are six ways to get a house built because beo starts with
quote:
You will get a stronghold (room) after you climb the "house ladder" to the top if you join one of the four great houses
This then is followed by elonin's
quote:
there are six houses if you are useing that logic.
Implying that if one defines a great house as a house that lets you build a stronghold that there are six. So this begs the question, what six organizations allow one to build a stronghold? I know of the three great houses Hlaalu, Redoran, and Telvanni, so what are the other three? _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

The other three Great Houses are Indoril, Dres and Dagoth as cfmdobbie explained, but they don't allow you to build a house of your own - Indoril and Dres have no business interests in the Vvardenfell area while Dagoth, well... guess.
I haven't played the add-on, however, so I'm not aware of any changes regarding stronghold-building it brought.

Hrm, I know of no other way to get a stronghold. I was just explaining the number six (or even seven) being in there in relation to Great Houses.
Bloodmoon will apparently allow you to help build a mining colony, and I personally hope they'll do something more about House Dres, since we've heard so little about it, but I've heard nothing to that effect.
Any other strongholds available out there? _________________ Charlie Dobbie

OK, this answer is WAY late to the parade, but....
In Bloodmoon, the East Empire Company quests end with you getting a house of your own on Solsthiem. |
