There is no character interaction in Morrowind. All you do is walk up to the NPC that is busy making collision checks and start a global text-based conversation that was the exact same as the other clone you talked to 5 towns back.
There is character interaction in Gothic though. The NPC's, while repeatative aren't nearly as obvious as in Morrowind, and they do over a dozen more things than those in Morrowind do. They actually show life, and you actually come across them doing believable tasks out in the wild, unlike Morrowind, when you just come across naked Nord's, or love sick women that never move from the hill you first found them on. Or perhaps the exploring friends that came upon the mating beasts, yet, after you reunit them, they don't continue exploring, they stand there like morons. What about the people you take somewhere? You lead them to a shrine, so they can do their thing which is cool, but you come back months later and they're still just standing there. When you do the exact same quest you're at the shrine for a short while, then off to the next one.
There is just no life in Morrowind, you have this huge, wonderful world, full of nothing. That is what makes it so depressing, and I can't wait for Gothic2 to come out so we can finally have a large world full of life. |

I made the mistake of starting Morrowind before I was even half-way through with Gothic. I hope I'll be able to go back when I'm done (in a few months!). I may have spoiled myself! They are both gorgeous games though. |

I completed Morrowind before I even found out about Gothic. Morrowind, while fantastic visually, left me dissapointed for a number of reasons. First the availability of unlimited "high level items". I was fully decked out in daedric by 10th level. I completed the house redoran guild quests and was rewarded with a house which was stacked full of the best stuff by the time I was 15th level. At that point I was pretty much unbeatable, with a few exceptions. I completed the main quest without a scratch. Secondly the quests in Morrowind were basically a lot of running around from place to place, if you could find the right place, and killing a couple of things and presto your through. The fact that it was so huge didn't add to my enjoyment. Infact I thought the playabilty of the earlier versions actually was more fun. As for Gothic I generally don't like confined area Linear games, but even though the map size is much smaller I have never felt limited. The quests are superior and things actually change. Unlike Morrowind where once you complete the main quest the ash storms still plague the area. As for items they seem more hard fought which make them seem more valuable and don't overbalance the game and combat takes more skill. Your technique actually changes as you get trained. It does take some getting used to but much more fun in the end. I can only hope Gothic 2 will be the definitive answer. ...Oh and I hope it comes with a better manual, Morrowind definitely wins there. _________________ "There will be plenty of time to sleep when your dead." |

I am working on the main quest in MW, and am getting really frustrated. It seems my job is to track down dozens of people spread accross the map using vague directions. Not fun at all. I don't even feel like playing tonight. When I was playing Gothic, I couldn't wait to get into it. I just wish it could have been completed the way the developers envisioned. It ended rather abruptly. Save me Gothic 2 from fedex hell!! |

Morrowind is the better "RPG" in that there are more quests, true character choices and stronger character development,
BUT
Gothic is the better game. Atmosphere in spades and a living world. I hate morrowings NPCs:
"Hello I'm listening" as I approach, but "We don't talk to outlanders" response. If you don't talk to outlanders, why greet me! Stupid.
I escape into Gothics world, but only care about the character in Morrowind. _________________ The majority are not always right |

True...very true.
I just hope G2 will beat out G1 'story-wise'... |

I dont think that u can compare morrwind and gothic because imo its like comparing gothic and moh:aa, there two different types of games. Gothic was the first rpg i ever bought and it had my totally imersed, my mom would come in and tell my time for dinner and i would be like "for the love of god woman, im trying to kill some minecrawlers!". ne way, gothic to me was all about getting the heck out of the barrier and doing what was nessicary. morrwind is way less structured, im doing what ever i want, "that npc looked at me wrong? ill show him!" i think the games are for different people, people who like to adventure and stuph like that play morrowind, people who want a deadly story and basically one goal to work for like gothic... i think both are sweet games *leaning towards gothic* but im not very far in morrowind. |

Sounds like the discussion reached a peaceful ending. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |
