big problem, i can't play, game freeze

thank you for reading this post.
after every movie the game freezes.(i've to shut down the cpu)
I've disable the logo and the intro movie and after few seconds i meet diego the game freezes again.
I've tried almost everything in the file ini (and i've also downloaded the patch and updated to version k) but nothing have changed.
so any help would be very appreciated.
My specs
Pentium 4 1.7
256 Mb ram
nvidia geforce 2 mx 100/200 drivers 29.42
sound codec ac97 driver 5.10.3570
directx 8.1 (all tests are ok).
thanks again

Are other programs running in the background?
Did you try to disable sound & music in the gothic.ini to find out if the sound card causes the freezes?

You´re welcome.
Unfortunately I have no idea what causes the trouble.

Did you test the DirectX _with DXDiag_?
You could try to move the movies to another location. Or change the color depth from 32bit to 16bit.
