Ugh....AD&D Storyline borked.... |
|
Blargh....AD&D gods are now borked. I agree they should draw their power from their followers....but NOT die from lack of worship. I mean... if you could die from lack of worship whats the point of being a god? Also some of these gods I've never heard of, like Torm. Or Cyric. I've never heard of Midnight either until I read Elminster in Hell. Though they didn't mention her former name in there...they just mentioned that she was a new Mystra. Bleh. I need to buy or borrow a few AD&D Game books to get up to snuff. I haven't bought one in so long. _________________ "What are you gonna do? Release the dogs?! Or the bees?! Hmmm, what is wrong with the concept of a god dying with lack of worship (I admit I am at all familiar with ADnD besides playing Baldur's Gate, but still)? Except in the word die - they rather dissappear. On the other hand, that really is a hard thing to achieve, since most gods very truly believe in themselves.
I really reccomend reading Pratchet, especially Small Gods, where this concept truly shines. |

Well if I were a god in AD&D I'd leave godhood asap if I knew I could just disappear from lack of worship. Although I don't know how Azuth stays in godhood. He doesn't really have that many worshippers and was more like Mystra's associate and now teacher. Also....Discworld gods are alot different. Like Blind Io...he plays ALL the thunder gods. So its not like he'll ever have lack of worship. You can't really compare the two since Discworld's rules make no sense whatsoever and are just plain whimsical. Anyway godhood in AD&D is pointless because...you won't be a god forever. Things are forgotten in the anals of time. Plus disease and all that jazz and outright assassination can wipe out your followers. Its now a big game of chance and a god has to hope he/she can keep winning.
I figure if they want to make gods more dependant on belief they should just lose power first...then their immortality status if they lose it all. _________________ "What are you gonna do?
