I don't know why but this thing keeps popping inside my head:
The PC, our nameless hero, has completed until now two trials as a Chosen Of Innos. Both included saving the world from the Chosen Of Beliar; first the Sleeper, then the Undead Dragon.
The Sleeper distorted the magic of the creation of the Barrier, whose purpose was to collect ore to fund the war against the orcs, Beliar's footmen. Some of the wisest magicians of the island/country got trapped, henceforth not being able to aid the war. Xardas, surely one of the wisest mages of the kingdom, also got trapped. Beliar's hope was that Xardas, who had been practicing Necromancy for a long time, unbeknownst to the Circle Of Fire, would help the Sleeper in attaining his goal. The PC, Chosen of Innos, enters the Barrier. He completes his acts of heroism; meets Xardas. Xardas, craving power like all Necromancers, sees his opportunity to become a Chosen, and uses the PC as his tool. They have a (new) common enemy, so the PC does not sense Xardas' intentions. Once the Sleeper is killed, Beliar needs to choose another creature as his champion; he does so, and the Undead Dragon takes this role.
Xardas had not reached his full power, yet he does not realise this and is furious. He rescues the PC, and quickly assignes him a new quest. Again, they have a common enemy. The ore is again unreachable; the war is being won by the orcs. Xardas does everything in his power to stop the Dragon, even bringing back from the "dead" an item that could harm him: the Eye Of Innos. Within this time Xardas studies and attains full strength, even more. Once the Undead Dragon is killed, Beliar finally chooses his next champion: Xardas. He reveals his plans to the PC, feeling that he deserved it.
Now, the third trial begins. In my opinion, this shall decide not only the war of the mortal realm, but shall end a new battle in the Divine War between Innos and Beliar.
Whoever shall the PC choose to support (more needs to be said if he chooses Beliar), he shall be granted a very much deserved place among the Lesser Gods. Do you agree to this point of view? |
