Neuro Hunter: Review @ ic-games

Neuro Hunter -- an RPG/shooter that travelled so far beneath the radar it was subterranean -- has been reviewed at ic-games. The text is surprisingly upbeat for the score of 60%, so here's the conclusion:
The few shortcomings with the game don’t really take away from the fun however, with lots to do and many places to explore you quickly become involved in Hunters quest to reach the surface. His mission changes as new information forces him into new challenges and it never get boring. If fans of RPG type games can overlook the less than ideal graphics and audio they will find a very entertaining game underneath.
Just in case this motivates you to check it out, the demo is here.

Seems more like a walkthru than a review, not badly written just differnet

Seem like a possiblity for a budget RPG, but it certainly is not in wide release yet, nothing here in the US yet.

I have seen one report it uses Starforce, which currently sweeping accross the net about how it is very dangerous.
Looks like someone has reverse engineered it or something seem to found how it works and it is not good, similar to Sony's rootkits.
If it is true I guess I will pass was definatly considering it.

Don't buy into the hysteria about Starforce. People are overreacting. Read here what Ubisofts producer of HOMM V has to say:
http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/1851065692/m/8121095173

Personally I have a bunch of games using Starforce on my system (including this one), and they all work great. No problems whatsoever. I even have a cd-imaging tool installed too - no conflicts or anything.

Basically there's no reason not to buy this game because it has Starforce. However, the game itself isn't particularily good. It's okay, and I suppose I've played it more than I thought, but it lacks polish in pretty much every area.

Yes, there is over-reaction, but Legal software purchasers should not have to deal with an abusive system such as Star Force. I borrowed a friend's copy of King Kong (and he borrowed my FEAR), and the CD1 was scratched, it managed to install eventually, but then StarForce wouldn't recognize it as CD1, and I was SOL. There has to be a non-user-hostile way of protecting software.

Anyway, the reviews bug me in that in neither case (this one or MetalHeart) do I get the impression that the reviewer played more than a couple of hours. Otherwise I'm almost done with Neuro Hunter and I've only played for a few hours.

I've played through Neuro Hunter and I also found it to be an OK game - nothing special, but a quite good action/rpg for its price. At least in the beginning the game has a nice feel to it. It's hard to say exactly why because it certainly has some flaws that makes it obvious that this game was not a high-budget title made by an experienced team. In some strange way it reminded me somewhat of Gothic 1 (people confined in an underground world, split into different camps etc) but make no mistake - it's not nearly as deep as Gothic I also liked the tech-feel in this game and the fact that you could create many items yourself.

Now for the bad points. The dialog is bad... truely awful actually It gives a new meaning to the word cliché and you'll often wonder if the developers actually intended a certain sentence to sound that stupid or if they actually wrote that with a straight face. The game is also a bit too long IMO because towards the end they'll try to squeeze more gameplay time out of the game by having you run around a bunch of levels you've already fully explored.

Overall I still enjoyed the game more than you would think, considering what I said above. For some reason I just felt myself drawn back to it and kept playing until the end. And many parts of the game were also really interesting - at least the first time around Considering that it's selling for £3 at ebay already I don't think it would ruin anyone interested in RPGs - also those non-mainstream ones - to take a look at Neuro Hunter.

Thanks for the tips on the game, kinda the impression I got playing the demo.
Nothing great but fun bugdet title in a very very dry year of RPGs

"Read here what Ubisofts producer"

Clearly this guy is talking about typical Tech Support calls, mostly blaming customers as usual.

I am talking about what is being said now, this week about how they use very secure ring levels which make your PC very vulnerable to hackers and worms.
Not to mention the serious problems people are talking about are never really reported to Tech Support.
Most people would not know that system crashes or data loss could be caused by the installation of a game protection system or that it does not even remove itself after the game is uninstalled.
The Starforce people have had to release a removal tool since it stays on your computer often times.

Here is info from the last 24 hours

Refering to an artical about 2 or 3 days ago, here
http://www.boingboing.net/2006/01/30/anticopying_malware_.html
Which sounds like someone reverse enginerred it to know that much preciese info.
Here is the Removal Tool from Starforce due to the problems
http://www.onlinesecurity-on.com/protect.phtml?c=55

I am glad you are not having trouble, but there are people whom are and if you lose a partition or get a virus in your normally safe system, you might want to keep it in mind for the future.
Most people do not take precautions till after something happens.
