Hmm...people mentioning Halo but not Bungie's older classic, Myth? I wonder if anybody actually still remembers it... _________________ The world is small, nasty and complicated, and everybody dies alone... - Sam Fisher |

Regarding The Library - yup, it was awful, one of the worst FPS levels I've ever played, I think. I hated it. But despite this blip (a big blip, I know), I still think Halo is possibly the best straight FPS I've ever played - it's either that or Half Life.
@Wolfgarou, I remember Myth, but I wasn't all that taken with it. But then I'm not big on RTS games. A Mac-owning mate of mine was a big fan.
I can't put these in order (too indecisive), but UW is definitely no.1:
Ultima Underworld (both)
System Shock (both if I'm allowed - just the 1st if I'm not)
Deus Ex (just the 1st one )
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Bioforge
Ico
Shenmue 2
Half Life
Thief (both, hopefully the third too)
Planescape:Torment
I really love the old XCOM games too, and of course, Beyond Forbidden Forest on C64. Oh, and Eternal Darkness. |

@Eat_Lead - Lemmings is the best game of all time!
Totally agree with you! Mayhem is the hardest difficulty in gaming history IMHO.
Even Half Life doesn't come close to the genius that is Lemmings! _________________ The world is small, nasty and complicated, and everybody dies alone... - Sam Fisher |

Wolf mentioned one of my all-time and IMHO least-respected and overlooked game series, Bungie's Myth, particularly #2. There was also a sweet WW2 conversion that I played for years, forget the name off the top of my head.
The other that is never given any respect at all is Battlezone II.
I wont bother with all the Blizzard or Baulders Gate titles and all that, what's the use of me listing obvious and duh-faves like Diablo, BG, Starcraft etc. Just mark me down for all the pre-requisite Pc gamer titles, they are all sitting here next to me in the rack, some of them in multiple copies. I dont know how far back I should go, I guess Id have to mention Super Mario Bros, Mike Tysons Punchout, and Burgertime if you wanted a lifetime asessment, or Space Invaders for that matter. Nah, lets leave Nintendo, Intellivision & Atari out of this...
Let me list the crappy obscure PC titles I ended up playing mostly by myself, and not because they have great singleplayer campaigns. I dont think theyre crappy at all, unfortunately everyone else seems to ='.'=
=Myth II -Soulblighter
=Battlezone II
=Lords of the Realm II
=Stronghold
=American Conquest
=Majesty
=Star Trek Armada
=Hidden and Dangerous
=Freedom Force
=Alice
=Deadly Dozen
And you know, all the prerequisites that any self-respecting anti-social geek has played such as the Dooms, Quakes, This-craft and That-craft, etc. _________________ “Then away out in the woods I heard that kind of a sound that a ghost makes when it wants to tell about something that's on its mind and can't make itself understood, and so can't rest easy in its grave, and has to go about that way every night grieving.”-Mark Twain |

Like xSamhainx, I'll second all the games that seem to be favorites on this site (Baldur's Gate, Gothic, Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape: Torment, etc., etc.). I'll follow xSamhainx's lead and post something different, but closely related. I've played a lot more console games than PC games, but here is my list of my 10 favorite obscure, unpopular or forgotten PC/Mac games:
1. Marathon 1, 2 and Infinity (speaking of old Bungie games)
2. Seven Kingdoms
3. Disciples 1 and 2 (maybe not so obscure--but I'm the only person I know at my local mall stores that has even heard of these awesome games)
4. Populous
5. Out of This World
6. Outcast
7. Zeus (with Poseidon expansion)
8. Caesar III
9. Etherlords 1 and 2
10. Killing Time (Kill ghosts with a frying pan--now that's fun) _________________ Apologize, v.i. To lay the foundation for a future offense.

Ok, here's my list, in no particular order:
- Far Cry
- Dungeon Master
- Ultima 4,5,7, Serpent Isle, 9
- Gothic 2
- Vampire the Masquerade Redemption
- Lemmings
- Ultima Underworld 1+2
- System Shock
- GTA3+Vice City
- Baldur's Gate
- Neverwinter Nights
Actually, I think there's 11 now..
Still, I think there a lot of great titles that didn't make it to this list - games like Icewind Dale, Eye of the Beholder 1+2, Secret of the Monkey Island (together with a bunch of other LucasArts games), Hidden & Dangerous.. and of course, GATEWAY TO APSHAI.. |

1. M&M 6 & 7
2. Ultima 5-7
3. Arcanum
4. Gothic 1/2
5. M&M 4&5 (too intertwined to count as two)
6. Planescape
7. Anvil of Dawn
8. Darklands
9. Fallout 1/2
10. Morrowind & Daggerfall _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

I don't really know why it is so, but I never really got into M&M. Maybe it was because they were extremely difficult as far as the puzzles were concerned. I always liked Wizardry though.
I can't believe no one has mentioned Realms of Arkania series, and especially the third game, Shadows over Riva. It was simply awesome game in it's time. Ah, down the memory lane.. |

I know what you mean about some of the riddles and things. There are still some I never solved!
MM6 saw the demise of the riddles and frustrating puzzles. I highly recommend trying out M&M 7. It is very quick to get into, has a pretty decent story, and fantastic charcter management. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=
