Blinding Boots of Speed? (minor spoilerish?) |
|
I have read a couple character creation guides that say stuff like, "this is a beast race so it is not recommended because you can't wear the blinding boots of speed" or "the steed is not a good sign because all it does is give you a speed bonus and you get the blinding boots of speed later anyway". etc.
I thought that the blinding boots of speed were cursed to cause blindness and as a result were unusable. Am I wrong or is there some way to "fix" them? |

They aren't necessarily useless if you can try to remember where you are going. _________________ If soot stains your tunic, dye it black. This is vengeance.

Seriously though...?
I played this game on the PC but never finished it, I got tired of trying to get around that huge world after I had seen most of it. But I miss it and am thinking about getting the GOTY edition for my xbox. So I was reading an FAQ to refresh my memory and whet my appetite when I came across these tidbits mentioning the boots that I had dismissed as being worthless when I played it previously.
Please give me some insight as to why I might have seen this because so far it sounds like I have one vote for the boots being worthless and the FAQ being completely wrong.

I don't know of any way to make those boots even remotely useful. Me thinks that FAQ you're looking at needs an edit or two. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

They are useful for travel because you can just watch yourself on the minimap and transverse large distances quickly. When you arrive, take them off. |

Hello
What you do is create a spell that gives you 100% magic reisitance for 5 seconds or so. Then you equip the boots and they don't blind you cos of the magic resistance. When the spell wears off you're still not blinded cos they only effect you when you put the boot on. Simple. You can now run about mega fast and see. |

Yeah, the Boots of Blinding Speed sound great at first, then appear to be useless. But once you start to work around their problems, they can become very handy indeed! _________________ Charlie Dobbie

The spoiler was truly welcome, being able to run at 250 makes it much more fun to play the game and get from place to place. But the sound of the feet going so fast is funny and is starting to get annoying. It reminds me of that sound in old scooby-doo cartoons when they would start running. thx again.

You don't need those boots to traverse the island quickly. . .just make a jump spell for 100 points. . . and to have some real fun, see how far you can jump total.
Like my character, i take all my items off save the Redas Robe of Deeds, which has feather 50 points, marara's ring, which fortifies acrobatics ten. . .then i use my 100 point jump spell and the scroll of icarian flight, which adds 1000 to acrobatics. . . .
end result being: i jump from the top of vivec's temple to solstheim. _________________ bleh |

brozz,
Check jellylad's post above for directions on how to make the boots usable. Great information - I thought they were useless and sold them. Maybe I'll go and buy them back.
Nah! I've got a better means of travelling quickly over the map. |
