Question for veteran Morrowind mages

i was thinking about finally exploring the game as a mage. im also debating whether to be a breton or a high elf : yes i know high elves are frail as kittens and bretons have good abillites, but high elves get more mana, and im gonna try to be as pure of a mage as possible. im also going with atronach birthsign.

my question is : if i was a breton, with the 50% resist magic, and with the atronach, with the 50% absorb magic, how would this work? would any magic that hit me be either absorbed or resisted? would 50% of it be resisted, and then 50% of the time the magic that i dont resist i will absorb? or vise versa? plz reply soon somebody, for i want to be a evil telvanni mage now that ive beat the game =]

Well, right now I have a Level 18, High Elf Mage and he's awesome. The high elf's weakness to magic isn't bad at all ...and it gives an extra challenge to the game. I have Intelligence at about 75 and Magika at 250(The Mage as a birth sign) right now. I vote to go with the Altmer.

ya i hear that the mana bonus you are given is more than enough to make up for your weaknesses with spells like shields and reflecting...but do you know how that breton/atronach combo would work out?

The Breton will be somewhat easier to play.
The 50% magic resistance doesn't work for most combat spells because those are elemental. It only works on non-elemental type spells. You can have 100% resistance to magic and still take damage from all the spells someone casts at you. You would need 100% vs magic, frost, fire, lightning, all 3 types of disease and poison in order to be immune to all spells.
I think the high elves look kinda funny in Morrowind so I play a breton under the Mage sign. My only regret is not having taken the Atronach for the extra mana and spell absorption.

Oh, and if your gonna be an Evil Telvanni make sure you make your character female. Some of those 2000 year old wizards don't like men very much and you'll start out leagues ahead as a female.

My Breton atronach is level 18 and cruising. My only regret is that I took conjuration as my only major spell skill--it is not a favored skill with the mage guild, so they don't recognize me as their true master. Yet.

High Elf

My high elven summoner, with apprentice birthsign, reached 300 intelligence and 1200 magicka points. Of course he's weak at magical attacks, (-100% magicka resist) but he doesn't worry about it since he's a summoner. He just conjures up his legion of daedras and casts invisibility.

Sorry for confusion. The natural intelligence stat is 100, and the rest is constant effect fortification.
