Since the expansions sound more interesting than the original single player campaign, I decided to give nwn another shot. I've never tried a 3e bard--but I loved them way back in bardstale--so off I go. I did everything in ch1 and most of it solo. But no cheats or command changes. He leveled up alot, uses a lot of buffs and has a ton of money. Unfortunately, when I try to get to the finale of act one it will not load. I'm told that I have an invalid character. Jeesh I guess I'm too good. I found the command switch that will let me go on, but I feel tainted.

Did you take any Dragon Disciple levels? If so, this is a known bug.

To the original poster:

What exactly are you trying to do? It sounds like you tried the original NWN campaign and found it lacking (so did I) but now want to give the XP's a try. So does that mean you're trying SoU now or HotU?

No, he's having the classic problem where it goes to load you into the end of act 1 and it says 'invalid character' because you have too much equipment or some other reason.

I thought the earlier patches fixed this. Have you patched the game yet?

I changed the nwnplayer.ini file so my bard is now--laboriously, parts of the oc are not fun--going thru the trolls cave in act2. I'm sticking with it because I hear that the expansions are more entertaining. I have SoU so far, but haven't tried it yet.

So the problem was too much equipment? I feared as much (I had about 50k at the time) so I threw some things away and even bought a bunch of expensive items to throw away to get rid of the extra cash. What a painful experience. It didn't help.

Patches--we don't need no stinking patches. Don't I wish.

open "nwnplayer.ini" in notepad, do the following:

Single Player Enforce Legal Characters=0
Single Player ItemLevelRestrictions=0

---

why? well because presumably you play single-player games by the honour system and don't cheat. actually, setting both those values to zero will quite possibly allow you to have as much equipment/blahblah as you want, since it will disable the games checks for "stuff". for example, the game doesn't want level 1 char's to have more than 1000gp worth of equipment (or something like that).

"ItemLevelRestrictions" handles the item value restrictions. i.e. A Ring of Regeneration (due to its monetary value) can only be used by lvl18+ characters. the other option handles character hacking, i.e. using the console to boost your STR by several points. since cheating is a moot issue in single-player games, both those options should be turned off.

for multiplayer, those options do not affect anything, since the server handles them.
