Gothic not starting at all....

Hi everybody,

I've run into a problem with Gothic.

I've installed the game. When I try starting the program, it loads for a while then goes to a black screen. It then goes back to my desktop, and shows the following error message:

X: XD3D_InitPerDX: Can't create D3DX context ! Error: DDERR_INVALIDPIXELFORMAT

I thought I met all the system requirements for it, and I can't seem to figure out what the problem is. Any help is greatly appreciated. If there is any more information I can give you, let me know.

The search function is your friend. It reveals this thread.
(No seriously, most people moved on to Gothic 2. Your chances for help are better if you use the forum search first.)

Installing patch 1.08kcould also be helpful.

Thanks for the welcome.

I tried what that topic was talking about, and I think it helped a little bit. The game took a little bit longer to load, but it came up with a new error message.

C:zMusic_DM.cpp(zCMusicSys_DirectMusic::Init()

) Failed to create loader object!

I tried a topic search and got a message back that was similar but not exact. It was talking about performance objects rather than loader objects. I'll try the patch soon to see if that does it, but if there is anything else I can do for it I'd really like it.

I'll get to Gothic 2 someday, but first I have to find it, and get through the first one (or just get it to run at all....hehe).

Thanks again.

Update your sound drivers and reinstall DirectX8. If you use DX9 you have to kill this first.

And donīt you think itīs time to post your system specs?

Oh my god, what a .... office machine! Both the graphics card and the sound card are among the slowest pieces you can no longer buy. (Sorry, no offense, but this configuration is a real shock.)

After updating the sound drivers and reinstalling the DirectX8.1 you should open the gothic.ini and disable sound competely. If the game starts then you know the sound card is the problem.

Iīm not very optimistic, though. Even if it runs you wonīt have fun.
