RPGDot Feature: Dungeon Lords hands-on preview |
|
We had the chance to play a pre-beta release of D.W. Bradley's latest game Dungeon Lords.

D.W. Bradley announced Dungeon Lords as a fighting RPG, so it seems that fighting is a crucial part of the game. And in fact, combat is working quite well. You attack with a close combat or ranged weapon, can block attacks, can do combo attacks ot use magic...everthing goes offhand quite simple and without much ado and still looks and feels very exact. Enemies in this preview version include wolves, goblins, but also higher level stone statues, and a dragon - among many others...and even a large number of low-level enemies can threat a higher level hero...
For all the details check out the Full article. |

I'm curious about something. I'm almost positive that I read that DL was to be released in April. If the game is in such an unfinished state as the previewer described, I don't see how it can make an April release. Has the release date been rolled back yet? It sounds like the game is at least 6 months away. _________________ 'nut |

This is an interesting question. Both Garrett's description and other previews paint a long road ahead -- and the April release date was only announced by Dreamcatcher a few weeks ago after previous delays/slippages.
Of course, I don't think we know how old the preview code actually is - it only arrived recently but perhaps the preview demo is old and Dreamcatcher (dtp? Was this a German version?) took their time releasing it to media outlets. Curious. _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |

no, it was english copy from dreamcatcher and the files on the cd are from january 17th - i do not know about other reviews, but it would still be possible to polish this version for an april release i guess, i also believe it was late april, it still is about 2 months - let's wait and see |

Hmm... I hope they delay it once more. If the animations are really as awful as some reviewers said, I doubt they'll be able to fix that in 2 months. No professional game designer will use the last weeks of development to improve animations.
@Garret: What do you think about the animations? Are they ok? In the gameply videos they didn't look so bad... |

I thought they were fairly good also. I just finished watching the enchanted weapons trailer and the animations seemed fine. Maybe not the best in the world, but definitely good enough to get the idea across. The quest log and automaps have to be finished though and then checked for accuracy. _________________ 'nut |
