I'm filling in some of the older game comments as I go through a retro-gaming fit! Knights of Legend, by Origin Systems, is your classic fantasy
combat game. It's really not much of a crpg as it is a Medieval Combat simulator. In KOL your main goal is to move from being a peasant to being
recognized as a Knight of the Realm. To do this you must complete about
25 quests with hundreds of combats in between. All of the quests are resolved by finding the monsters and killing them. This game may have the most detailed combat engine ever developed. Each weapon is rated on it's hack, slash, and thrust capabilities. Weapons often break, requiring backups. Magic is powerful, but extremely tiring. Attacks can be aimed at various locations. If your enemy is wearing platemail but no greaves, go for the legs and you can disable him and leave him to bleed to death. You can choose to attack high, medium, or low and there are damage ratings for head, torso, both arms, and both legs. If you disable a characters right arm they can't attack. If you disable the legs, they can't move, etc. If someone wants to play a retro game drop me a line. You'll need a couple of programs to run most old Dos games on newer systems. VDMSound and
a little app called mousectrl.com seem to be all that's necessary in most cases. Mo'slo can be useful occasionally too.
