I had some distaste for the voiceovers in the first gothic. In preference I'd rather play with subtitles and listen to german.

I played the first gothic in german with english subtitles because i thought the amercian accents sounded rather out of place. The voices in gothic 2 were recorded in london so i expect g2 will have english accents instead of american this time.

Thanks HornOx

The translation is a bit off, but its better than nothing. For a while there, it was almost like being Helen Keller.

HornOx,

Can you tell me if any of the Gothic I editing tools work with the Gothic II data?

Alistair.

At least I can compare what the auto translator says to what I am writing in. I am not as fast but I would see how close it comes.

My first look at a translator was very crude - I want to capture the full flavor of the game syntax. But look how fast it did the whole thing.

Mine is up through the bandits dialogue tree. It makes much more sense. But it takes alot of work and time.

I wonder if this same method can be approached using the German Gothic 2 full version.

sure, but...

And: If anyone can download the german Gothic 2 full version via Edonkey and use a fan-made translation, he may not buy the english version

@Alistair: None:(

HornOx, yes send me the cut out sentances.

Send me the cut sentances using Perl. My plain old Hex Editor is not very fast as you say, I have to do it twice, plus search plus make darn sure it fits in the orignal space. That program would speed it up greatly, that way I can concentrate on the dialog structure instead of the tedious Hex Edit cut and patse and typing in in one letter word byte at a time.

spoiler warning:

German auto translations souds-read- funny (hardly make sense especially on long sentences as you noticed, and slang phrases like not in dictionary reinzulegen= rein zu legen = clean into to put down= cleanly put down on the floor= knocked clean out= basically getting beat up, your clock cleaned and laid out on the floor -reference to trap getting jumped by Brago and the two guys camped outside tring to get an Amulet but beat him up for not paying his protection money form Gothic 1 That is how he relates to the bandit in the G2 demo to gain his trust since he was there to like some kind of prison buddy, it is rather deep speech).

Spoiler over.

I think people will buy the English version since the actual voice acting is alot of the game. There is no such thing as too much press whether bad or good. How many peole even knew about Gothic in USA, it did not get alot of promotion.

Spreading a MOD demo -game will be out anyway in 2-3 months, is not going to hurt in my opinion. People who warez will never buy it anyway.

I read your post, go ahead and send it to me, and I will finish it up quicker, staighten out the sentance sturcture to get the proper meaning.

I studied a few languages and they all have pattens, by knowing the grammatical structure you can get a feel for it - even if it is not my native tongue.

My translation reads and go along very good with the german voice -it really is much better to read ( some text is compressed due to technical reason and the fact you must read it in a few seconds when it flashes up).

Those members here that are can speak the native tongue can proof read it for errors and mistakes -which always happen. Jaz, Gorath and some else here made statement to that item.

Where do you send the files to me then HornOx? My e-mail? I have broadband. The three files are exactly what I was using.

I realy do not think English demo would be released until the game comes out - probably the forum users will use it -demo is not that big part of the whole game, only a taste. And gives us something to due until March 7, 2003.

well buying the german version and translating to english subtitles before english gothic 2 is realeased would only enhance german gothic 2 sales. So in effect if they money is going to the same place for both versions what difference does it make.

So,

What exactly do I have to do to get the translation? I got very confused by reading all this.

TIA ~T
