Gothic 3 Now Scheduled For January 2006 Release

JoWood have apparently changed their release list and the anticipated release date of 'Gothic III' has been changed from Q4/2005 to January 2006 (German-speaking territories). Thanks, Gorath!

2009 is about the time we should expect a bug-free German release of a game, isn't it.

(sorry, couldn't resist )

Did anyone of you really expect to see GIII in stores by the end of the year? I mean, we haven't even seen an actual screenshot from the game yet.

was there any mention of an updated graphics engine? the current engine is getting a little long in the tooth i think. even though graphics aren't the most important things in an rpg, an updated engine would be nice.

in any case, yeah, i'm not holding my breath to see this even in '06

I hope they don't downgrade to a heightmap-based landscape engine as used in most games with wide open worlds (e.g. Morrowind, DAoC, Far Cry etc.). I always liked how the Gothic world was fully sculpted 3D, although most people probably don't care.

The Guild 2 and Gothic 3 started from the same thing, but they will look considerably different in the end. Don't pay much attention to this old newsbit.

I do care !
I'm with those who think that an engine plays a great part in the feeling of a game... ( System Shock 2 with the unreal engine anyone ? )
Also, I hope they'll keep their huge worlds in one piece ( with a great view distance ) and that we won't be forced to wait for the next level to load like so many games do... ( excepted Xenus / Boiling Point ! )

What was wrong with the System Shock 2 Engine ? I think it was a pretty good engine and it didn't have that unreal engine look that i don't like.

Did I mean the contrary ?
I'm still crying thinking about the source code of the Dark engine lying in a drawer at Eidos ( or wasn't it burned by Looking Glass ?? )

That was me above...

Now, to come back to the topic, I think there's plenty of time for the release date to be pushed back a number of time...
