I have bought M&M 9.
I have to say I am very pleased with it.
No moans at all.........
No buggy stuff..........(yet ?)
I like everything I have seen so far.
I have a Human Fighter (now Crusader), a Half Orc Fighter (now Crusader), and 2 Elf Initiates. I want one to be a Scholar (then Mage)and the other to be Healer (then Druid.
I have my Crusaders with AC's of 46 and 38, my Inits are only 15 & 17.
Love the skills/promote style
Skills I find essential are PERCEPTION at least a 3. This "highlights" all useful accessible doors in towns (Green for friendly, Red for danger).
IDENTIFY at least 3 for stuff you find. Level 2 is not quite good enough. I am now finding level 3 probably isn't either.
MERCHANT for haggling pricewise.
BLADE & SHIELD should all be raised to EXPERT ASAP for fighter types.
BOW to EXPERT for Inits in back row.
ARMSMASTER next for fighter types
One init has HEAL as quickspell and the other has SPARKS (very useful for dispersing crowds....eventually)
They are all level 9 at present.
I have 3 NPC's, Forad Wotsisface, the girl from the bank (adds to gold % collected but crap at fighting) and an assassin I picked up in a tavern (not that I usually do that sort of thing you understand)
So we are 7.
I find the game excellent to play. Storyline is good so basically well done to 3DO/NWC.
A wishlist would be:
Have a means of adding notes to map
Being able to Print Out your characters stats & inventory etc;
Top Game...........

Yepp, I like it.. not quite like the other Might and Magic games, but it is almost bug-free, and overall a very good game. |

Now Maylander, to call this bug-free might be a little misleading. There are several instances (Imp quest, promo text) that aren't technically bugs, but could (at best) be called REALLY bad design.
That said, it's a pretty good game, and has been extremely stable on my rig. |

Despite the Keep bug, I think it's the best one in the series yet. It most certainly beats Wizardry8 (but I was always partial to M&M over Wiz). I've played M&M 3,4,5,6,and 7. I only played 3,4, and 5 to completion...got sick of 6 and 7...and didn't want to play 8. I love how there isn't massive amounts of monsters anymore. I personally thought that was getting old and unrealistic. I love what they did to the skills...much better implementation than 6 and 7. |

It is basically bug-free compared to other roleplaying games such as Gothic or Might and Magic 8.
The only RPG which is less buggy is probably Baldur's Gate 2(which is, perhaps, the best RPG ever). |

Perhaps we have different definitions of buggy . So far (I am not nearly finished) I have found numerous instances of "crevaces" where I get totally stuck and cannot move at all - totally locks my machine and I have to reboot to get out of it). As well, I have found several spots in the game where the creatures (Half Orcs in Castle Dook) just stand in their spots and let me shoot them with arrows until they die - they do nothing at all to defend themselves. Again in Castle Dook, if you run a creature to the door - exit and then reenter the creature will just stand there letting you kill it without moving or defending at all.

Played it for app. 20minutes now - have to say that I am not overly impressed. Not bad, but hell, THAT's the LiTech engine *g*?????

Rendelius,
Stick with it. I'm in the third town now, and the game's starting to grow on me. Still no addiction like previous installments, but getting better. Make sure you do the Imp quest properly (check elsewhere on this board). The fact that I wasted 10 hours of playing on this bug did not help endear the game to me.... |

Referring to the Imp quest at the Keep, they should have had the bottom door locked from the outside. If this was done there wouldn't be a bug. |

Joey Nipps:
Have you played Gothic? If you have then you know what "buggy" is. You will not be able to play that game for 10 minuttes without encountering a bug, or crashing the entire game. Sometimes the sky turns into a yellow substance, and the same goes for the water.
Sometimes the water actually dissappears, or even worse, it appears out of nowhere in the middle of the rice fields.
MM9 has got a lot of bugs compared to Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, but not compared to the real kings of bugs. |

I've found it dissapointing to start with. But started to enjoy more now. Though re-starting the Keep quest is a pain. My favouite RPG released recently has to be Wizardry 8. Thoroughly enjoyed that and for the first time in ages had me doing all night sessions (Well at the weekend)
I still remember MM III on my amiga as one of the best RPG games i used to play. I'm hoping MM9 keeps the interest up and doesn't turn into a monotonous game. Time to get back and sort out this keep once and for all.

Yepp, you do that, and good luck to you! I didn't experience any critical bugs after the Keep bug, but save a lot just in case. |

Thanks to people posting here I've AT LAST managed to compleat the Anskram Keep. One thing i did notice, when i killed the Last Imp coming out of the fire pit, you get a Trill sound notifying you that the Quest log has been updated. (Check your log when you are sure you have done it, there are no sections in a "Secret" location i found, if it wasnt updated then something has gone wrong, i'd apply the patch as well to make sure)
Thanks again,

I haven't found Gothic remotely buggy, although I have to say the interface took some getting used to, being designed by a left-handed martian.
M&M9 on the other hand IS buggy, and I have yet to return to the Keep with the patch installed to see if I can finish that quest without having to delete files and redo the dungeon. Full marks to 3DO for getting out a patch that addresses this bug so quickly, no marks whatsoever for failing to tell us whether the patch results in your automatically being credited with the quest reward if you have killed all the imps. If you still have to do the workround of deleting the files and replaying the Keep then it is NOT a fix. |

Unfortunaly, i did need to re-do the keep after installing the patch. If you save outside the keep, delete the keep minisave files and then reload and go back in, you can complete the quest. (It was a lot quicker second time round and due to this i managed to get my characters up another level and get lots of items and money again as well so it wasnt all too bad)
