Having just finished Gothic for the first time I would like to share I few of my discoveries.

SYSTEM SPECS :
------------
Intel P4 1.3
256 Rambus
Geforce2 MX 32 MB
Windows ME ***

1) Gothic seems to hate XP, running the game under XP for about 3 days I found that performace was generally quite bad and at certain paticular map spots, unplayable. Running under Windows ME made a WORLD of difference. I dont' think I could have finished the game under XP.

2) Switching over to a fresh install of ME with the latest Detonator drivers made Gothic almost silky smooth, im extremely picky when it comes to performace and Gothic performed extremely well.

3) Under 800x600 resoultion with 300% viewable and all graphics cranked, Gothic is one of my all time favourite games, cheers to the development team!

Not in my experience:

In XP Pro,
P4 1.4,
256 Rambus,
GeForece 2 Ultra 64 MB.

Gothic runs fine at 1600x1200x32, 300% viewing distance.

In my case, it actually ran better with XP than with 98.

I am running XP with a lowly Pentium 550 and have absolutely NO problems.
