Nice to hear he was caught.

Frankly, I don't care where he is tried as long as he is put out of everyone's misery. In other words, dead and buried. Then the Iraqis can get on with rebuilding without his shadow looming over them.

Thanks, Kershaw...

Anyway, I think the Iraqis should get to try him themselves. Although, with the US, you can't be too sure.

Red Dawn? Heh... where have I heard that before?

sacrasm = TRUE
Ah yes, with those shifty, arrogant Americans, you never know.
sarcasm =! TRUE

*rolls eyes*

Where he's tried will be the business of the coalition and the Iraqi governing council.

Can we save the usual political bickering for later? Preferably never?

It just wouldn't be the same if our European friends didn't take a few baseless, judgmental potshots at the USA, Val...

Can you stop talking generalizations as well then? About Iraqis, Americans, Europeans, ... Those are empty words, so leave them out, please.

I'm glad he finally got caught. Actually I'm not sure where he should be tried... In Iraq maybe, but then again, what judges are there in Iraq right now? Most of the administration from Saddam's time has been taken out now, but has been mainly replaced by "puppets" of the coalition (not meaning something negative by that; but that's the way things go before the elections take place there). I think it would be very hard to have a credible trial in Iraq of that level right now. Trying him in the US would be a strange thing to do, judging from interenational law, I think; and since I find the death penalty to be pretty barbaric (we won't have the discussion now though), I don't think that's the solution either. Maybe the Hague (Den Haag) would be the best pick.

But all that's just details. He'll be sentenced to life at least anyway.

Assuming that a bunch of immigrants with a name is empty would imply that where they came from is just as empty...

Not really no, but when using them as "they always do this" or "they are like that"... then they are.

Oh, brother... Just to clarify, when I said "in typical American style" I literally meant it - no other country in the world would start a press conference in such a dramatic way. It's not a bad thing, it's just an American thing. I don't know how many people here saw both, but it's worth comparing and contrasting the broadcasts from Bush and Blair. Very different, and both very much in their individual country's style.

And as for where he gets tried being a matter for the coalition - nope. It was an American-controlled mission, and the troops on the ground were American. The UK has no word in what happens to him, and the final word can only be an American one. In war, to the victor go the spoils. It would be inappropiate to have it any other way.

Personally I'm glad for the Iraquis. I can't imagine the fear and pain those people have suffered. He must stand trial for crimes of war and inhuman treatment of thousands. I think if we want to say we are trying to give the Iraquis freedom, then this is the first step. They were the victims long before anyone else, and it is their country and they should have the trail and punishment given out by them in a fashion they see fit. The coalition will have a supporting role, but I think that should be all they do. Support. As to who said what where and how, what does that matter. He is caught. Now hopefully the rest of his followers will be caught or flee and the number of people who have been dying because of his role will start to shrink. That is what is important here. His actions were crimes against mankind, and we need to fight that as a group of humans.

Finally! Although, I fear they won't find Bin Laden for a long time.

Hah, americans are taking over the world! And I enjoy it, much better shows at the TV late nights.
